- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
Over the years, most academics in Nigerian tertiary institutions have held on to the notion that Wikipedia is not a good source of information and have discouraged its use by students in these institutions. This is largely because Wikipedia is crowed-sourced project and, in their opinion, `anyone` can contribute `any` information to Wikipedia, whether such information is true or not. This erroneous believe have, in fact, given lecturers, students and even some librarians negative perception of Wikipedia and as such, have affected their willingness to contribute to the project even though they directly or indirectly consume content from it. The most disturbing part is that these group of people, more often than not, lack the understanding of the structure in Wikipedia which allows for fact-checking and ensure information contributed to Wikipedia are not only true but can be verified. While many scholars from different parts of the country are gradually coming to this understanding as a result of increased awareness, many lecturers, students and even some librarians in Delta State are yet to know these facts about Wikipedia due to poor Wikimedia projects awareness in the state. The GLAM-Wiki training for Librarians in Delta State, being the first Wikimedia project training held in the state, is seen as an eye opener for many librarians and has reawakened the need for a train-the-trainer Wikipedia course in each of the major tertiary institution in the state. To this end, I will be partnering with Libraries and Librarians to organize a Wikipedia train-the-trainer Workshop at Delta State University, Abraka and Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro. These events will beam the light on Wikipedia and correct the different misconceptions held by Nigerian scholars about Wikipedia. It will include a comprehensive training on Wikipedia as well as an edit-a-thon focused on promoting Art and Feminism in the State.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
One of the strategies for achieving the changes proposed in this project is to create awareness and sensitize the lecturers, students and librarians about Wikipedia so they can be better informed to see the true value of the project and join the movement. In addition, I believe organizing training and building capacity of scholars in Delta State is another strategy that could help address the issues discussed in this project. It is my believe that, organizing a Wikipedia train-the-trainer workshop in these institutions will go a long way in sensitizing people in the state about the structure and organization of Wikipedia and this will in turn lead to high level of acceptability and use of Wikipedia in these institutions. More so, it will create an avenue for more scholars and professionals to be recruited to join the Wikimedia Movement, as well as fill the content gap in Wikipedia.

1. An awareness and sensitization campaign will be carried out by the organizers and the concerned libraries in the weeks leading to the event.

- 3. Organize an in-person Wikipedia training in each of the institutions

Yes, I have an experienced team to implement this project. They include:
- 1. User: Nosakhare Okuons (Volunteer Project Lead) - He is an experienced Wikimedian who has organized and facilitated several Wikimedia events in Nigeria. He organized the GLAM-Wiki training for Librarians and Archivist in Delta State.
- 2. User: Omorodion1 (Volunteer Facilitator) - He is an experienced Wikimedian with a high level of Wikimedia events` coordination experience. His vast knowledge and experience as a Wikimedian and a Librarian will be very useful to this project. He will join this project as a facilitator and will also support the project lead in coordinating the events.
- 3. Librarians in the respective libraries: Given that this event will be organized in partnership with the respective institution libraries, Library staff in these institutions will equally assist in organizing this event, especially in the area of logistics and publicity.

The target participants for this project will be selected Lecturers, Students and Librarians in the institutions where the workshop is to be held. These are mainly residents in Delta State and will form part of the Delta Wikimedia Hub and by extension, members of the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria. These selected and interested participants will be in turn required to train others and sensitize others about Wikipedia. To this end, all engagements with the participants before, during and after the events will be done in the dedicated Whatsapp group that will be created for the project. This will also help the organizers follow-up with the participants after the event.

We have actively adopted the Wikimedia friendly and civility policies on all our events and platforms so as to create a friendly and welcoming environment for everyone. Additionally, volunteers are always educated on the Universal Code of Conduct within the community.

This project will be organized in partnership with the respective Libraries of the institutions selected for this project (Delta State University Library and Delta State Polytechnic Library). These partners are GLAM institutions that are interested in open knowledge and has mission that align with the Wikimedia movement. These partners will primarily provide training space, projectors and public address system. Additionally, Librarians in these institution will assist in the area of logistics, advocacy and recruitment of volunteers.

It is hoped that through this project, participants will gain better understanding of the workings of Wikipedia and then advocates for it use within the tertiary institution community. Thus, will there be a higher level of acceptability of Wikipedia among scholars in tertiary institution in Delta State? Will participants` perception of Wikipedia change after the events? Will lecturers, students and librarians be ready and willing to contribute to Wikipedia after this project?
