Part 1 Understanding your work edit

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

Wiki Luanda 101 was held on the 9th and 10th of September. On the 1st day, the idea was to familiarise the workshop participants with the Wikimedia universe and present Wiki Luanda. On the 2nd day, the idea was to apply what had been learned in the previous day and to do something practical through an edit-a-thon. We teamed up with 2 more experienced Wiki groups to organise the event.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

Getting support from Wiki Editoras LX and the Black Lunch Table was strategic: we counted on their support for putting together the program and they participated in the event. It was good that the participants saw that there are people, groups across the world that shape and contribute to the “Wikiverse” and this highlighted the message about community that is one of the pillars of the Wiki Luanda approach.

3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Agree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

We have created an intentional partnership with Rompe Luanda, a Angolan artivist collective led by Queer artists as a way to make sure that more underrepresented groups could have access to our workshop. This goal has also achieved since Wiki Luanda activities are shared in Rompe's monthly programe reaching more people

Part 2: Your main learning edit

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

We have noticed that some of the outlined learning priorities still need to be improved . This time around we were able to learn more about the administrative part of becoming an editor; improving our skills as facilitators and the ones teaching other about wiki user group while also learning ; we learn how to take notice of some of the challenges on retaining and mobilizing editors since not all of then comeback ion the second day; and finally we felt that we still need to learn about wikimedia and the different platforms .

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

We have learned that having an fixed space to gather really makes a different and allows us to create a better safe space for new editors  ; finding that making sure you have the right partners, one that don't impose their views because they do not know the context it's also something that we are learning to assert more in the next times. We knew about some of the administrative costs were essentials (such as the ones for food, water and internet) but we noticed that computers its a must . A lot of people in Luanda don't have their own computer so we had to create group of more than to people during the workshop . Nonetheless, its was a great learning experience.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

We want to continue to organize editathons , learning ore about the different platforms on wikimedia, more events in Africa region but more importantly on how to retain our current editors and mobilize new one's. We want to continue our relationship with Rompe Space as our main editathon gatherings, not only beacause its such a welcoming space with community meals , library and art studio but it's also in one of the most historical neighborhood in Luanda: Chicala . It's having this in mind that we want to request for our next rapid fund to organize a photowalk in Chicala. With that we want to retain our current editors but also link cultural photo and historical events as a way to mobilize new one's. this would allows to learn more about commons; edit the Chicala wikipedia page and how to mobilize new editors through cultural events as well as extend partnerships with other initiatives in Luanda. The goal is to end the year with at least 10/15 new editors as well as to make our wiki group visible in Luanda

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).
