1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

This is designed to motivate knowledgeable individuals to contribute Igbo ancient names that is becoming outdated to Wikitionary. Igbos attach a lot of importance to the names they bear; both individual names and names of their communities. There are varied reasons for this. The names are so valued that in case of community names, any attempt to change it without the agreement of the entire community always led to crisis. Most names are derived from their forefathers, rivers/streams, deities, hills, markets and other landmarks while families and individuals usually take their names after family members, market days and known heroes and heroines, among other important institutions.

In the olden days, Igbo people named their children after the four market days of Eke, Orie, Afor and Nkwo. That is why there are such names as Mgboafo, Mgborie, Nwanyinkwo, Mgbeke, Nkwomma, for women, while the men were named Okonkwo, Okoli, Okeke, Okafor Nwafor, Nweke, among others. In addition, families name their children to symbolise their experiences in life or circumstances surrounding the birth of such children, deceased family members, time or place of birth.There are over thousands of Igbo names not captured anywhere especially the ancient names and they are going into extinction,most of the young generation youths are not aware of the names and this will be worst if the it is not captured now- what data are we going to present to the generations unborn?

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

We intend to close the gap between the ancient names and the younger generation and in the same time solve the problem of low participation of Igbo language contributors in the use of Igbo Wikitionary as an online educational resource and creation of contents in Igbo Wikitionary platform.

This project will;

1. Increase skills for existing editors:
   Increase the editing skill set of existing Igbo language editors.
2. Recruit new editors:
   Teach literate Igbos how to create Igbo Wikitionary and involve them in challenge to add contents.
3. Add contents on the Igbo Language Wikitionary platform.
3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

We are planning 2 hybrid training over a month e.g. online and offline focused on teaching people on how to create Wikitionary online targeting Igbo Indigenous members at Wikimedia Igbo User Group, Nigeria, the maiden edition will take place on 22th and 29th of July, 2022.

After the training, we will organise an edith-a-thon challenge that will reward highest editors with data token and gifts.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.
