1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

The project was about shooting photos from protected areas in Burundi and uploading the taken photos on Wikimedia Commons to be useful for articles on Wikipedia. Training and capacity building sessions were planned and accomplished in order to provide participants with knowledge related to the topic, we have organized training sessions and editathons to equip skills to our participants with knowledge on how they had had to contribute to the project. As were as we aimed also to recruit and include new participants for the projects in particular, and for the community in general, we have recruited participants through notices and project publications.

Communication and awareness: We have publicized our project to the targeted audience, using communication channels to inform the project to our audience.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

Awareness sessions were held for active and new members to explain how the contest was organized and how participants were going to accomplish activities for the campaign to contribute to the competition. The competition was started with a training session on how to shoot photos and upload to Wikimedia Commons.

We remained in contact with the participants as a communication channel was in place to help interactions where participants could express question through the channel and be answered accordingly to the issue raised.

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

During the Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in Burundi, we have organized training session on how to shoot photos and this helped to improve the quality of photos uploaded on Wikimedia Commons, and a number of 692 photos were uploaded by participants from Burundi. It was also an opportunity to recruit new members for our community.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities?This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

The fund reached us with a late, and we had to reorganize the timeline of our activities. Participants were requested to be flexible and adapt to the given time.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

We will organize more download sessions and editathons and Photo Walks in places where the community participants have never been to cover large geographical space.
