1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in Burundi project will help us to contribute to the international campaign Wiki Loves Earth with photos related to the theme of the year 2023. Photos related to the theme from Burundi will be uploaded and shared on Wikimedia Commons. This competition will also help to retain our members for the photographic contributions on Wikimedia Commons and also to recruit new members to the competition as well as to our community.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

In order to achieve the changes we want in this project, we plan the following approaches or strategies : Training and capacity building: To provide participants with knowledge related to the topic, we will organize training sessions and editathons to skill our participants with knowledge on how they will contribute to the project. Recruitment: As we will need participants to contribute in our project, we will recruit participants through notices and project publication.

Communication and awareness: We will publicize our project to the targeted audience, using communication channels to inform the project to our audience.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

As part of the approaches and / or strategies related to our project, and in order to make our project known to the audience of the project, we plan to establish information releases through various media and communication channels for awareness and sensitization.

We will organize photo shooting walks; Upload of photos to Wikimedia commons; Organize Wikipedia editathons on how to contribute photos on Wikipedia articles. After the campaign, we will document the contributions done by the participants and then make and submit the project report to the Wikimedia Foundation.

Yes, I have a team needed to implement the project. The team is built as following:

Gilbert Ndihokubwayo (User: Gilbert Ndihokubwayo): Project leader, will lead the overall project development and implementation activities, facilitate access to the areas targeted by this project, ensuring compliance to the grant commitments and reporting to the Project on progress and status of campaign.

Ferdinand Irankunda (User: Ferdinand IF99): Co-organizer, in charge of partnership. His role is to mobilize people around the project, co-train interested in participating to the campaign.

Adronis Mbazumutima: Design and Communications.

Octavie Niyuhire (User: NIYUHIRE Octavie): She will be in charge of logistics.

The contest is open to everyone. There is no exception. Anyone, Burundians or not, actual wikimedian or not, having photos from Burundi related to the contest's theme will be welcome to participate. We will encourage professional photographers to participate in the contest with the purpose to have photos of quality. Before and during the activities, we will engage the participants through the communication, organization of meetings. In order to follow up the participants after the activities, we will create a communication channel with the participants in order to keep contact with them.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

We will contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants according to the WMF’s friendly space policy and the universal code of conduct that will be briefed to participants during the organized trainings and our interactions in created social media groups, reminding the participants of the WMF’s friendly space policy and universal code of conduct as important.

Wiki Loves Earth 2023 in Burundi has been a subject of discussion with our community members; they agreed to have the contest organized in Burundi. The active Burundi members will contribute to the contest and help also to recruit new contributors to the contest in particularly and to the Wikimedia projects in general.
