For about 3 years Wiki Hour Initiatives have been engaging people with disabilities especially the hearing-impaired community in schools, with the focus on them creating Wikipedia Articles, adding content to Wikimedia Commons and also Wikidata. This time we decided to add an extra Layer to ensure we translate Wikipedia Articles to sign language and we would be doing so for Three (3) months.. We realized through the years of engaging the hearing-impaired community that creating sign language videos for Wikipedia articles is a meaningful way to make information more accessible and empower the hearing-impaired community.

1. Accessibility:

The primary change is to increase the accessibility to information for the hearing-impaired community. By converting Wikipedia articles into sign language videos, we will be making educational and informative content available to people who may be facing barriers when accessing traditional written content.

2. Inclusivity:

Also the project seeks to promote inclusivity by ensuring that individuals with hearing impairments can engage with knowledge and learning just like anyone else. Inclusivity is a key aspect of a fair and equitable society.

3. Empowerment:

By providing access to information in sign language, we empower the hearing-impaired community to learn, explore, and share knowledge. This empowerment can lead to increased confidence, self-esteem, and independence.

4. Education:

This project contributes to the education of individuals with hearing impairments. It helps them learn about various subjects, broaden their understanding, and develop critical thinking skills.

5. Awareness and Understanding:

Through sign language videos, we would also be raising awareness and understanding among the general population about the challenges faced by the hearing-impaired community. This can lead to greater empathy and a more inclusive society.

This year we intend expanding the scope of the project to other Universities and schools

1. Accessibility and Inclusivity:

Convert Wikipedia articles into sign language videos.
Add the Wikipedia article to the background and audio to videos to enhance accessibility for both sign language users and those who can read.

2. Training and Skill Building:

Organize Training and Edit a Thon for 30 students in each of the schools on Wikipedia, Wikidata and most importantly Commons, this would include an upload session on all Audiovisuals, the training will also include some photography and editing skills for persons with hearing impairment.

Collaboration and Co-Creation:**

Form a diverse team including sign language experts (interpreters), individuals with hearing impairments, and video editors.
Hold regular team meetings to brainstorm, plan, and review content.

4. Public Awareness and Advocacy:

Develop an outreach campaign to promote the project's goals and impact using our social media channels and .
Share success stories and testimonials from individuals who have benefited from the sign language videos as part of our feedback and reporting.

Teams are not salaried roles, these are volunteer members and wiki hour team. Training & Engagement Stella Agbley SAgbley has over 6 years as a Wikimedian trainer. She is a GLAM advocate and very passionate about SDGs. She would lead training and also handle event planning. (Climate & Inclusion) Daniel Anyorigya- Uprising Man is also a climate and Human rights activist, an avid Wikimedia contributor and a journalist. He will train and assist with online communication and reporting.(Human Rights) Lady Patience: Patketeku - would assist with logistics Martin Atta User:Martinattakee is a sign language interpreter who has been trained on how to edit Wikipedia and its sister projects, he will also be an advisor and sign interpreter for the inclusion section. Joy Agyepong: Joy Agyepong is an experienced wikimedian/ environmental advocate and long time contributor who would serve as an advisor and also a facilitator. Nii Commey Cnii an active Wikimedian and would be technical lead/research support. Anita Adu- Yeboah - Edapa Annie an avid contributor and would handle resources and community engagement. Enoch : Enoq would also be assiting with Tech support especially in faciliation for the audiovisuals and editing

1.Community Outreach: Collaborate with local deaf and hearing-impaired organizations to spread awareness about the project. Engage them in planning and content selection.

Online Platforms: add them to online platforms where participants can suggest topics, ask questions, and provide input before content creation begins. Follow-Up After Activities: Feedback Surveys: After content creation, we would have an online discussion as a form of surveys to assess the quality, relevance, and impact of the sign language videos. Ongoing Communication: Maintain an open line of communication through online forums, email newsletters, and social media to share updates and gather further input.
