Grant Proposal edit

M. Please state the title of your proposal. This will also be the Meta-Wiki page title.

WikiProject Ghana

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Local

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

We recently established a Wiki Club at Islamic University College, which has introduced the movement to new editors and volunteers. This project will place more emphasis on items and articles relating to gender, ethnicity, religion, and culture because there are a lot of female students at the university. The female students have demonstrated a favorable interest in Wikipedia and Wikidata with the recently completed project, and they anticipate taking part in next activities. Additionally, Pentecost University College has expressed interest in participating in this project, so we will be organizing events at their university as well.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

We intend to keep focusing on Capacity building. We will be organizing three physical training events at Islamic University College and three physical training events at Pentecost University College. Participants will be trained on the fundamentals of Wikipedia and Wikidata. The items, appearance, style, categories, references, size, hyperlinks, and infoboxes of the article will be the emphasis of these articles.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

Trainings: We intend to train over 50 students, most of whom are females and are also retained participants of the previous project. They will learn how to edit Wikipedia pages and add data to Wikidata. They will learn how to participate in the Wikimedia movement, communicate with the Ghanaian Wikimedia community, and take part in the movement's numerous campaigns and other global initiatives. This is necessary t o ensure more engagement and interest in the cause.

The movement and its platforms will be introduced at the first event, followed by training on Wikipedia and Wikidata, and a contest at the final events. In order to close the content gender gap, we will put more of an emphasis on articles on women and other topics of impact.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

Not applicable

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

The Student Representative Council (SRC) executives of each institution played a significant role in the planning phase of this project, and we intend to continue working with them to ensure a successful completion of the project. In order to facilitate the event and foster positive relationships with the participants, I will collaborate with the LUCG Wikimedia Community team like they did in the prior project. They provided technical support as needed and made new participants feel comfortable.

6. Please state if your proposal aims to work to bridge any of the identified CONTENT knowledge gaps (Knowledge Inequity)? Select up to THREE that most apply to your work.

Content Gender gap, Age (regency), Other global topics for impact (topics considered to be of global importance), Cultural background, ethnicity, religion, racial

6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.

Participants will be editing articles related to female athletes, religious leaders, diplomats among others.

7. Please state if your proposal includes any of these areas or THEMATIC focus. Select up to THREE that most apply to your work and explain the rationale for identifying these themes.

Education, Culture, heritage or GLAM , Diversity

8. Will your work focus on involving participants from any underrepresented communities?

Gender Identity, Geographic , Ethnic/racial/religious or cultural background, Age

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

Content Gender gap: we will focus more on females, not only representing their work but also as participants in the workshops and hopefully as editors.

Geography: It will include youth as editors and future organizers from marginalized areas.

Age: we will try to incorporate both adults and youths people as contributors and, specifically, future organizers. To participate, no prior knowledge of Wikimedia is required. We hope to engage these participants by collaborating with the Student's Representative Council make an open call for participation through their communication channels and banners.

We plan on retaining participants through our one-on-one mentorship system which ensures continuous engagement of participants in Wikimedia activities. We will also track the contributions of participants through the Outreach Dashboard to give incentives to top contributors who contribute after the events.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?
