1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

We intend to participate in the WikiForHumanRights campaign, which aims to raise awareness about our right to a healthy environment. We, the UAE User Group, strongly support this campaign and would like to use our participation in this campaign to raise awareness about the importance of the environment and our rights to a healthy environment.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

This year, the government is focusing on sustainability and the environment in preparations for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention Climate change (COP28) at Expo City Dubai in November 2023. Therefore, we believe it would be an opportunity to organize an edit-a-thon as well as a panel discussion at Expo City in June. The Emirates Literature Foundation, our Fiscal Manager, will organize several book clubs in collaboration with Expo City, bringing international authors who write about the environment and climate change to discuss their books with readers. We will take part in this and partner with ELF and Expo City Dubai to do the following:

  • Organize an edit-a-thon focusing on various Wikimedia projects mainly Wikipedia (creating or editing articles related to environment, sustainability, climate change, and biodiversity etc.), Wiki commons (taking picture of the sustainability pavilion at Expo), and Wiki Data.
  • Organize a panel discussion at the book club. The panel discussion can include international author(s) as well as a representative of WikiForHumanRights Campaign.
3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

In order to be diverse in our edit-a-thon, the participants can choose either to participate in editing some Wikipedia articles, or exploring the sustainability pavilion at Expo City, taking photos and uploading them on Wikimedia commons, or creating data items on Wiki data.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.
