Climate change is touching every facet of our lives, and Africa, in particular, is feeling its severe effects. News reports from various African countries highlight the challenges, with some facing devastating floods and others grappling with drought-induced food insecurities. Governments and youth organizations in many African countries, including Ghana, have been increasingly recognizing the urgent need to address the impacts of climate change. The government of Ghana is developing and implementing policies aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change such as regulations on emissions, sustainable land use, and protection of natural resources amongst others. Young researchers and innovators are also conducting studies on climate change impacts specific to Ghana which can contribute to evidence-based policymaking and community resilience strategies. Considerable documentation exists regarding Ghana's policies and adaptation strategies. However, these valuable resources and information often suffer from low visibility on the web, and their content is occasionally challenging to comprehend due to the usage of complex English language. We have also seen that not many wikipedia editors like to write about this subject as it can be complicated . Moreover, many of these existing articles on Wikipedia are not up to date. This visibility gap not only affects the broader public but also hampers informed decision-making among policymakers, researchers, and practitioners.
To address this challenge, we will train students from the climate change and sustainability center on Wikipedia, engage them in a knowledge gap mapping exercise on Wikipedia and use the identified gaps as assignments for their class work. On the other hand we will engage experienced wikipedians to help bridge some of the knowledge gaps articles identified and also make it available in other languages We also want to ensure that others can have this information in selected local languages like Dagbani, Twi, Hausa, etc. This can help increase the visibility of information around climate and sustainability and Gender intersection topics about Ghana. Wikipedia stands as one of the world's most widely used platforms with strong online visibility. Documenting this information can increase visibility of this knowledge on the web and make it accessible in multiple languages.

The following activities that would span over a 2-month period aligning to our strategies would be adopted:
Map knowledge gaps on Wikipedia relating to climate change, sustainability and gender in Ghana Engage in a mapping exercise to identify English Wikipedia articles about climate change, sustainability and gender that do not cover local knowledge relating to Ghana and list of new articles about the subject that are missing on Wikipedia. We would leverage our existing partnership with the Center for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies (C3SC) Department at the University of Ghana to engage their postgraduate (masters) students who would adopt the mapping exercise as a class assignment. In addition to the manual article list, we would also use list building tools to identify additional articles for the project work list. Build and empower a community of knowledge experts to contribute climate change, sustainability and gender content relating to Ghana on Wikipedia Organize a series of online and in-person training sessions for the Masters students of Center for Climate Change and Sustainability Department at the University of Ghana to learn how to contribute the subject knowledge on Wikipedia. These training sessions would focus on Wikipedia introduction, editing, Wikimedia Commons upload, content translation, and Wikidata in preparation for the content building activities. Build knowledge about climate change, sustainability and gender relating to Ghana on Wikimedia projects Organize different audience focused writing, editing, translating and photowalk activities to contribute content relating to climate change, sustainability and gender in Ghana on Wikimedia projects. This includes engaging the trained students of C3SC department at the University of Ghana to use their acquired skills to work on the list of articles identified through the mapping exercise to improve local knowledge on the subject areas. Experienced Wikimedians from Women for Sustainability Africa and the WaleWale Wiki hub would also be engaged on the worklist generated on the mapping exercise to improve articles and create Wikidata items relating to the topic. The engagement of these two groups forms part of the contest activity to improve content in the related topics in English, Twi and Hausa languages. In addition, experienced wikimedians from other communities in Ghana would embark on a photowalk and video project to document environment and ocean pollution in Ghana on Wikimedia commons. The videos would capture the effects of pollution on the Ghana environment and oceans as well as the dangers it portrays for the citizens. The images on the other hand, would show how human behavior in Ghana pollutes the environment. Create awareness about climate change, sustainability and gender topics in Ghana Organize advocacy campaigns through the videos curated during the photowalk activity of the content drive. These videos and images would be shared with some of the agencies advocating for environmental and ocean pollution to use for educating the local population on the dangers of environment and ocean pollution in Ghana and use that to encourage behavioral changes to ensure a sustainable future for the people.

We have engaged in discussions with the Deputy Director at the department of Center for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies about our intention. We have also engaged our community members about the campaign and they are very excited about the opportunity to contribute. We have also informed and collaborated with the coordinators for the Walewale wiki hub activities, and Francis for video and photo walk activities, Women for Sustainability Africa participation, University of Ghana Center for Climate change and Sustainability Department to design the programs and proposal writing. We have also let the Wikimedia movement be aware of the project by adding your activity on the community events table on the campaign meta page - https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WikiForHumanRights/Join_Community_Events. We have also informed the Anglophone Africa regional coordinator, Ruby about the project who is also engaged as an advisor on the project.
