6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The number of articles in Armenian Wikipedia has crossed the threshold of 300.000 articles. Though the number of new articles is gradually increasing, a lot of articles which were created in the early stages need detailed wikification, improvement, updates and elimination of defects. At the same time, newly created articles also need updates and wikification which is why our activity is aimed at bridging this gap and providing improvements. The change that we are trying to bring with the "WikiCheck" project is to ensure the high quality of the articles already created, bringing it to the high level of wikification, and improving incomplete articles. In order to address the above-mentioned challenges and to reach the goals set by “WikiCheck” we are planning to organize a two-day team-building. As the "WikiCheck" group is already an organized one (though on an online platform), it needs an in person meeting with ice breaking games, introduction of all members but most importantly creation of a place where members can ponder upon the formation of a strategic plan, summarization of group’s previous work, definition of its road map and its future activities. "WikiCheck" group has adopted the format of organizing weekly e-meetings-discussions and monthly e-meetings for reports in order to achieve our goals. Unlike other projects, "WikiCheck" has a broad geography, members are not from one area, but from different places, especially rural areas, regardless of social status. E-meetings granted us a greater engagement. The measure of effectiveness is the successful experience of 4 months, resulting in 153 new articles, 6 improved articles and 2,000,000 bytes of contribution to the Armenian Wikipedia.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

(required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.

All the members of the Program work voluntarily. Please find the information about our team via the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PwSBl0f5zm4jwvVEztHPcweuVw90ujF03jNZ_q8coa4/edit

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

-The target of "WikiCheck" is the youth (18-30 years old) from Armenian wiki communities.

  • Engagement is currently supported by an already formed team and now due to the activity of the project our aim is to improve our team's capabilities.
  • Involvement of new members is not planned right now and emphasis will be placed on strengthening the capabilities and teamwork of the already formed team, and in the second phase of the program, the involvement of new members will be considered once the project is expanded (as the program envisages (i.e. the involvement of more experienced (wiki) participants and the resources for the first stage are not enough to teach newcomers, it is more targeted to spend these resources on the work with the already formed team with experienced wiki participants, we are ready to include new members if the latter are experienced Wikipedians)
  • We provide feedback through weekly e-meetings, the long-term program will ensure the nature of ongoing engagement of participants.
10. Does your project involve work with children or youth? (required)

Yes

10.1. Please provide a link to your Youth Safety Policy. (required) If the proposal indicates direct contact with children or youth, you are required to outline compliance with international and local laws for working with children and youth, and provide a youth safety policy aligned with these laws. Read more here.

Everyone on our team is an adult, and we are guided by the “Universal Code of Conduct” and the “Friendly Space Policy for Wikimedia Foundation Events”. Throughout the program, there will be one member in the group who will be responsible for ensuring safety and quickly resolving issues. During the whole program, including the offline event, every member will be able to contact the person responsible for safety in case of any possible problems. Our goal is to create a friendly environment where everyone feels safe, involved and respected.

11. How did you discuss the idea of your project with your community members and/or any relevant groups? Please describe steps taken and provide links to any on-wiki community discussion(s) about the proposal. (required) You need to inform the community and/or group, discuss the project with them, and involve them in planning this proposal. You also need to align the activities with other projects happening in the planned area of implementation to ensure collaboration within the community.

Our decisions are made within the group. Any decision related to the program is accepted or rejected by joint discussion and voting. Group members vote on their preferences, either privately or publicly, the coordinator ensures complete confidentiality of the private vote. As a result of the approaches shown, there is mutual trust between members and the team works effectively. We had discussions on the Program with the team several times. We had discussions with “Wikimedia Armenia” to avoid possible overlaps.

The discussion within the group was done following the below steps:

  • deciding on date and time of the meeting,
  • setting the agenda,
