1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Unity School Old Association (USOSA) Ahmadu Bello University Chapter is an association for old students that graduated from Federal Government Colleges of Nigeria and are currently studying in Ahmadu Bello University, they are old student of different F.G.C’s from Nigeria and are currently studying in ABU, they are USOSA under ABU Chapter.

After a mutual meeting discussion and planning with the president of USOSA under ABU Chapter. The president seek to engage USOSA students to learn Wikimedia Skills from experience editor, As a result of that this project aim to engage USOSA Students of ABU chapter to learn Wikimedia sister projects basic editing/contribution conceptual skills, through offline and online workshops. The project aim to train USOSA ABU chapter students on four Wikimedia Sister project, starting from Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata and Wikitionary.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

This project aim to carry out 4 online trainings and two in person events to mentor USOSA students on four Wikimedia Sister projects starting for Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata and Wikitionary, it will take us the duration of one month for the USOSA students to acquire the skills.

Part of the scheduled bulletin is for them to carry out assignments, participate in online courses and participate in in-person events, at the end a certificate will be awarded to the successful student. Moreover, a special WhatsApp group will be created for the USOSA students for any questions and answer or any further mentorship.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
  • Online training: during this project we plan to carry out like 10 online trainings about four Wikimedia Sisters projects, students of USOSA will be joining to learn and build their skills/experiences of contributing to Wikimedia sister projects.
  • In person event:After ten 10 online trainings have been carried out and participants are more well satisfied with knowledge they have acquired on Wikimedia editing skills, then we would organize two events inside ABU or in zaria to engage the participants physically.

I user:Anassko will lead this event as lead facilitator, with Ahmadeemah the USOSA President for ABU chapter as project coordinator for the entire program. We have Musa Vacho77 as the logistics officer. abubakr111 an admin in Wikitionary as a Wikitionarian Mentor during the event. We have Sadauki11 as an experience editor to Mentor participants on Wikimedia Commons, Shaba50 as the monitoring officer during the events, Iwuala Lucy as a Linguistic Officer to monitor other participants interested in Yoruba or Igbo language Wiki.

This project will as well work on languages, according to the information we have received from the USOSA president there many people from different regions with different language and ethnicity. We plan to take them all along.

The targeted participants are Unity School Old School Association students that are based in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, after showing interest in learning Wikimedia conceptual skills of editing and contributing in various Wikimedia sister projects. Their number exceed our capacity to volunteer in mentoring them alone, we need support from Wikimedia Foundation to help in enrolling them into the Wikimedia movement.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

We will adhere with Universal Code of Conduct (UCOC), Wikimedia Foundation friendly space policy and basic terms of use of various Wikimedia Sister project rules, without violating any Wikimedia policy.
