1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Kinyarwanda is a language spoken in central Africa region by approximately 22.8 million people mostly in Rwanda, DRC and Uganda. In Rwanda particularly it is spoken by almost the entire population in official and unofficial matters. Most of the Rwandan people don't speak foreign languages, for that reason we have started to translate Wikimedia in Kinyarwanda to facilitate those people and to offer a platform for consensus on Kinyarwanda between the academia and the general population. This will bring in more readers because they'll be able to understand what's written.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

We want to customise the Wikimedia platforms to be translated in Kinyarwanda so that the Kinyarwanda community may leverage to start new projects in future. We want to translate and proofread most of the essential features of Wikimedia, from English to Kinyarwanda on translatewiki.net. Engage existing Kinyarwanda editors Knowledge sharing to the community Consult the Kinyarwanda Language experts

This will help us translate in a short period of time and with accuracy and add knowledge to our ranks as a community.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

Based on the translations we've done so far, We are willing to organise two in-person training workshops to equip the community with the skills they will need to participate in translations in Kigali, the initial and refresher training. We will use this project as an opportunity to translate and proofread all the most commonly used tools such as Incubator, Wikibase Lexeme, ContentTranslation, UploadWizard, Wikipedia Android app, Wikipedia iOS app ,Commons Android App, Wikibase repo, ProofreadPage, Extensions used by Wikimedia - main, Core MediaWiki, Extensions used by Wikimedia - Advanced, Extensions used by Wikimedia - Media messages to Kinyarwanda on translatewiki.net. We will work with the Wikimedia Rwanda User Group to participate in as translators or advisors. We will receive consultation from experts, such as teachers, linguists, or professional translators of the Kinyarwanda language
