6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The Ghanaian election occurs every four years, and in 2024, we aim to actively engage in activities related to this event. Our primary goal is to document all election-related activities in Ghana for 2024. In the previous election cycle, our campaign focused on increasing contributions related to the Ghana Election on Wikipedia. Although we succeeded in boosting contributions, there were minimal image uploads to Wikimedia Commons and limited data contributions to Wikidata.

This year, we aim to expand our efforts and improve upon our past performance. Specifically, we plan to contribute significantly to key WikiProjects, including Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wikiquote, Wikivoyage, and Wikidata. Our community of volunteers will focus on these projects during the election period.

Additionally, we intend to engage both Wikimedian and non-Wikimedian civil society members in our 2024 election campaign. By broadening our outreach and collaboration, we hope to enhance the quality and quantity of election-related content across these platforms.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

Partnerships - We plan to partner with various communities that will support and engage with us throughout the campaign. Some of these partners include Open Foundation West Africa, Open Knowledge Ghana, Child Online Protection, Ghanaian Pidgin, Twi Community, and more.

Translations - Our strategy involves focusing on two key language communities: the Twi Community and the Ghanaian Pidgin community. By localizing the content, we aim to provide insights and access to minority language speakers.

Communication & Promotion - We will engage key media outlets in Ghana to share our plans. Additionally, we will have podcast engagements on WikiUpdate. Our promotional activities include: a. Flyers/Posters: Creating and distributing promotional materials in the community. b. Social Media: Using social media platforms to promote the event. c. Email Campaigns: Sending invitations and reminders to community members and interested participants.

Training & Education - As part of the election project, we will train volunteers to contribute effectively. Training sessions will cover topics such as "The Use of Creative Commons License During the Election Period" and "How to Contribute Politically Towards the 2024 Election."

Tools & Platforms - We will encourage participants to create Wikipedia accounts in advance and use the Wikipedia Outreach Dashboard to track contributions and provide metrics.

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

Our target participants are volunteers within the open movement and Ghanaian voters in the ecosystem. We will engage these participants before and during the activities through our dedicated social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Twitter, and TikTok. We will provide them with surveys to fill out and develop insightful content to maintain engagement.

To ensure continued involvement and follow-up after the activities, we will:

Pre-Activity Engagement: Utilize social media platforms to share information, updates, and call-to-action posts. Conduct online surveys to understand participant interests and expectations. Share educational and promotional content to raise awareness about the project.

During the Activities: Regularly update participants with live feeds, posts, and interactive content on social media. Facilitate discussions and encourage feedback through social media channels and online forums.

Organize virtual events and webinars to keep participants informed and engaged. Post-Activity Follow-Up:

Send thank-you messages and post-event surveys to gather feedback. Share summaries, results, and impact reports of the activities through social media and email. Encourage continued involvement by inviting participants to join future projects and initiatives. By maintaining consistent communication and providing meaningful engagement opportunities, we aim to build a strong and active community of participants.

Based on our experience with the elections four years ago, we reached out to key organizations like Open Knowledge Ghana and Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA) to inform them about our plans for this year. We also shared links to our past campaign events to guide them on our objectives for this year.

Steps taken: Consultation: We spoke with key organizations such as Open Knowledge Ghana and OFWA to make them aware of our activities for this year's election. Sharing Past Campaigns: We provided links to our previous campaign events to give them a clear understanding of our past efforts and what we aim to achieve this year. Relevant links:

Learning and metrics

edit
17. What do you hope to learn from your work in this project or proposal? (required)

From this project, we hope to learn several key insights:

Volunteer Engagement: How effectively can we engage volunteers from various regions in Ghana?

How many volunteers from different regions participated in our activities? What were the most successful methods for recruiting and retaining volunteers? Impact on Regional Activities: What impact did the volunteers have on election-related activities in their regions?

How did volunteer contributions vary across different regions? What types of election-related content (articles, images, data) were most frequently contributed by volunteers? Effectiveness of Communication Strategies: How effective were our communication and promotional strategies in reaching and engaging our target audience?

Which communication channels (social media, email campaigns, etc.) were most effective in engaging participants? How did participants respond to the various forms of promotional content (flyers, posters, videos)? Collaboration with Partners: How successful were our partnerships with organizations like Open Knowledge Ghana and OFWA?

What were the outcomes of these collaborations? How did these partnerships enhance our project activities and reach? By collecting and analyzing data related to these questions, we aim to gain a deeper understanding of our project's effectiveness and the best practices for engaging communities in election-related activities.
