This project aims to drive transformative change by amplifying the voices and achievements of African female political leaders on Wikiquote in line with the annual #SheSaid campaign. We are dedicated to bridging the gender gap by ensuring women's unique quotes, insights, and accomplishments are properly represented and celebrated alongside their male counterpart.

Politics plays a vital role in today’s economy, offering crucial benefits such as promoting representation, driving social change, fostering economic development, facilitating conflict resolution, and protecting human rights. Over generations, politics has significantly influenced policies and established leadership and governance structures that have been instrumental in achieving lasting progress in communities.

In Africa, politics has made transformative contributions to the continent's development and trajectory. Efforts by various organizations, such as the African Union (AU), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and East African Community (EAC), have enabled greater collaboration and collective action towards shared goals, driving integration and development across the continent.

The primary challenges this project seeks to address include amplifying the political voices of African women on Wikiquote and profiling influential female leaders who have made a substantial impact on the continent. The project aims to enhance visibility for women in politics, ensuring their contributions and achievements are acknowledged and celebrated.

Notably, the project focuses on highlighting the quotes of remarkable women who have emerged as symbols of hope and leadership through their political efforts, thereby inspiring future generations and promoting greater gender equality in political representation.

  1. SheSaid campaign, focusing on amplifying the voices of African female political leaders, aligns closely with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) on Gender Equity. SDG 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, addressing the barriers and biases that have historically limited their opportunities and recognition, especially in Africa.

Main Approaches to achieving the project: 1. Create Awareness: We will utilize a wide range of effective social media platforms and conduct public talks to enhance the visibility of quotes from women in politics on Wikiquote. By leveraging various channels, we aim to gather support and encourage participation in showcasing the quotes of notable female political leaders. This approach will not only highlight their contributions but also inspire a broader audience to recognize and celebrate the impact of women's voices in politics.

2. Content Creation: We will organize a series of engaging activities, including editing campaigns, physical and online training sessions, and edit-a-thons. Throughout the campaign, we will utilize these initiatives to empower both new and experienced editors to contribute to Wikiquote by creating and improving articles.

3. Community Engagement: We will prioritize the active involvement of diverse individuals, including women, political enthusiasts, and volunteers. Through our workshops and training sessions, both online and in person, we aim to engage the community in contributing to, profiling, and bridging gaps concerning African female political leaders. This will make those quotes accessible to the world. Through the project, we will educate both new and existing members on how to effectively contribute to Wikiquote by creating and improving articles.

The project aims to significantly impact Wikiquote by profiling and documenting African female political leaders. This initiative will enhance the visibility of women in politics, ensuring that their efforts are recognized and celebrated alongside their male counterparts. By documenting these contributions on Wikiquote, the project will improve access to accurate information, inspire women, and promote gender equality.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

1. Create Awareness: Our strategy for raising event awareness will be done through diverse mediums. We plan to utilize digital materials like flyers and short videos, across various social media channels and online communities relevant to our target audience. This approach will help ensure widespread event awareness, thereby reaching a broad audience that generate significant interest in the event. Additionally, we will create a dedicated Whatsapp group for interested participants, creating a space for ongoing discussions, resource sharing, effective communication and easy engagement. We will ensure all communication efforts are aligned and consistent across various platforms and channels. By coordinating our messaging, we aim to clearly highlight the importance and goals of the event, reinforce the key points and themes, and make them more memorable and impactful for our audience.

2. Physical Training (Day 1): The hands-on training session sets off a key aspect of our project, participants will receive insights, practical skills into editing and contributing to Wikiquote. Experienced volunteers will train participants using teaching aids which will include projector and slides and Wikiquote training resources. They will learn to make basic edits, search for and retrieve information, and improve and create articles on Wikiquote. Our training will empower both new and experienced contributors, promoting inclusivity and enable effective participation.

3. Physical Meet Up (Edit-a-thon): The Edit-a-thon session offers practical experience for participants to actively apply knowledge gained during the physical training. Through the hands-on editing session, our team will readily provide guidance and support, prioritize a collaborative environment where the participants can learn, apply the knowledge gained, and contribute effectively to the project’s objectives. The approach will help the team continuously track and evaluate the impact of the training session and help identify issues easily and make necessary adjustments to ensure the project’s goals are still maximized.

4. Virtual Training (Follow-up training and evaluation): The Virtual session will act as a follow-up to our project, allowing the team to evaluate the progress and impact of the previous physical training and meet-up. The virtual session will give participants opportunity to further enhance their proficiency in editing and contributing to Wikiquote guided by experienced trainers and prioritizing an interactive platform for all participants to discuss any challenges they have encountered. Through the session, our commitment to continual growth will further be reinforced, ensuring that participants gain the necessary insight and tools to contribute effectively to the project’s goals.

5. Contest: The event will conclude with an online contest to engage participants and award prizes to the top 3 contributors, top newest editor and the outstanding female contributor. These incentives are to encourage continued participation in future Wikiquote projects and events.
