For many years I have been assigning my students to write articles for Wikipedia, an activity which has resulted in several hundreds of articles created on English, Korean and Chinese, and other Wikipedias (see: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/users/Piotrus , https://doi.org/10.1177/0092055X17714030 , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Piotrus/Educational_project_results and https://diff.wikimedia.org/2016/11/28/piotrus/ - the latter is an official coverage of my work by WMF blog staff). One of the recurring problems in the classes is the difficulty in teaching students about reliable sources. As part of teaching them about English-language reliable sources that they should use while writing Wikipedia articles, I recommend to my students the use of The Economist, an English-language magazine of renown. I also use the digital subscription to demonstrate to them how to add references to Wikipedia articles in class by accessing a sem-random article, finding an encyclopedic fact and adding it to Wikipedia if it is missing said fact or missing a reference for it. In addition, I also use my digital subscription to provide copies of articles that students request for their work.
In the past, I have had a print subscription and I found that giving students print copies of the magazine to browse has had a strong motivational effect, improving the quality of their Wikipedia article writing by reinforcing the message with a physical artifact. This is becoming increasingly important these days as my classes receive ain increasing number of Mainland Chinese students, who are very curious to learn about uncensored Western media. Over the years, however, my stockpile of print copies has diminished, as not all students return the issues I lent them, and due to my financial situation I have not had a print subscription to TE for the last several years (I can provide a photo of my diminished stack of print copies of The Economist in my university office). Obviously, the students would be most interested in reading about current, not outdated, news and using the most recent issues of the magazine as sources.
I would like to renew my subscription to the Economist, both print and digital. Print, so that I can continue handing the magazine to my students and have them use it as a source for Wikipedia article writing. Digital, so that I can continue to use that reliable source for in-class demonstrations and my own editing as a volunteer (I am a very active editor to Wikipedia with over 100,000 edits on my account). The participants in my classes are a mix of undergraduate Korean and Chinese students, with a sprinkling of international exchange students (from countries such as Indonesia, France, Poland, etc.). The students take my courses every semester and as can be seen from the https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/users/Piotrus I usually teach between one to three courses each semester that each involve students creating Wikipedia (occasionally, Wikidata/Wikivoyage) content.

As I have an established record of publishing articles about using Wikipedia in the classroom, I would like to write up a how-to article for teachers describing the use of reliable newspapers and magazines as sources for student writing activities. See my most recent publication: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/87567555.2023.2182756 "Quick Fix: Making Writing Assignment Motivational with Wikipedia" . The write-up will first be released in a form of a guide for the Wikimedia Community in early 2025, with possible future rewrite into an academic paper.
