This idea was discussed with one of the GLAM coordinators of the Macedonian User Group, Ana Vishinova. Ana Vishinova is already a GLAM employee at the Museum of Macedonian Struggle and she is a secretary of the Macedonian part of ICOM. She was asked to hold a seminar by several GLAM employees, who wanted to collaborate with Wikipedia, i.e. who want to share their knowledge, texts, public domain photos, etc.
The seminar aims to catalyze positive change within the GLAM sector and their collaboration with Wikimedians, by addressing key challenges and fostering innovation in the following areas:
Digital Transformation: Many GLAM institutions struggle with adapting to the digital age, including issues such as digitization of collections, digital preservation, and leveraging technology for better access and engagement, we as Wikimedians will help with digitization and share their knowledge on Wikipedia and Commons.
Audience Engagement: There is a growing need for GLAM institutions to diversify their audiences and engage with communities more effectively. This involves understanding audience needs, developing inclusive programming, and utilizing digital platforms for outreach, such as Wikipedia itself.
Professional Development: Continuous learning and skill development are crucial for GLAM professionals to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving field. This includes training in new technologies, management practices, and strategies for sustainable cultural heritage preservation. Working with Wikipedia for many GLAM employees would present a new training and skill.

The event will begin on the 22nd of November 2024, Friday. The main program will be divided into 5 sections, in which one speaker will share their experience as a liaison between GLAM institutions in Macedonia and Wikipedians. We will invite another speaker to share their thoughts on the need of digitization of collections and tackling the issue of a lack of technological leverage in GLAM institutions.
At the end the participants will take part in editing Wikipedia, they will be supported in person and in-group during the event.
After the event we will support them online, in person, over phone, by email, and there will be a Facebook group for additional support.
The main activities will be started after the seminar, we expect and encourage GLAM employees to engage themselves in creating and improving content on Wikipedia and to upload free files on Commons.
