Our primary objective is to familiarize the students of the Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus with the Wikimedia movement and its projects. We aim to impart an understanding of the value of free knowledge and promote active learning by editing. Our focus will be on generating content about Northern Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot community, as well as on participants' personal interests. To achieve this, we have planned a series of activities such as presentations, regular wikimarathons, seminars, and a photowalk.

During the last semester, we organized a seminar on our campus in collaboration with volunteers from the Wikimedia User Group Turkey about what Wikipedia is and how it works. It had a high participation, with about 80 people. At the conclusion of this event, it was possible to find new volunteers for the project. We noted the positive and negative feedback we received, and based on the interest we saw from the attendees, we are confident that our upcoming activities will be even more successful in encouraging participation and contribution to the Wikimedia projects.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

  • User: ToprakM: I am an aerospace engineering student and the president of the society. As the only experienced Wikimedian on the team, I will manage wikimarathons and photowalks, assisting other team members in their Wikimedia-related efforts, as well as running seminars and presentations to promote knowledge sharing and community engagement.

  • User: Berkesecici: He is a computer engineering student and a society board member. He will be responsible for promoting events in all possible ways, including but not limited to social media, poster advertisements, and collaborations with relevant other societies. He will also be responsible for creating and developing all the necessary materials and designs for these events.

He will also be in charge of selecting the ideal venue that meets the event's requirements and ensuring that the chosen location is accessible and convenient for all attendees. Additionally, he will coordinate all aspects of the event to ensure that everything runs smoothly and successfully.

  • User: Gokcne: She is a teaching English as a foreign language student and a society board member. Collaborating with Yousif, she is responsible for determining the ideal event venue. 9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

Our focus is on engaging university students while also extending a welcome to Cypriot Wikimedians beyond the university. To maximize awareness, we'll leverage our social media accounts, our WhatsApp group, our email list, Facebook groups of the university, and posters to spread the word at least one week prior to each event. After the event, we'll check in with participants via our WhatsApp group and surveys to gather feedback and ensure continued engagement.
