1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

After the success of our maiden project, "Initializing Ibibio," with many articles created on the Ibibio Wikipedia on Incubator, we, the non-recognized Ibibio Group (in the process of applying for official status), will be embarking on yet another project titled "Ibibio Language on Translatewiki.net" in a bid to fasten the chances of getting our own domain to increase the visibility of Ibibio language on the internet.

At the end of the project, we are expecting the old and new Ibibio language editors that will be recruited to translate the most important messages of the MediaWiki software on translatewiki.net.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

A total of 20 old and new editors will be engaged for this project.

Both the old and new editors will be trained on how to translate messages on the translatewiki.net interface, while also monitoring their progress closely.

Gift prizes will be given to the top 5 editors during the project as a form of motivation.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

In this project, we are going to host a 2-day in-person translate-a-thon to engage and train old and new Ibibio language editors who will be recruited on how to translate the most important messages of the MediaWiki software on translatewiki.net.

4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.

When the work is done, Ibibio language readers accessing the website will not need to read English messages on the website, but rather Ibibio language messages, just like it's found in most Wikimedia language wikis.

7. Please state if your proposal includes any of these areas or THEMATIC focus. Select up to THREE that most apply to your work and explain the rationale for identifying these themes.

Education, Culture, heritage or GLAM , Diversity

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

As usual, the target participants will be youths based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, who are Ibibio native speakers.

The participants will be recruited through offline/physical recruitment processes to actualize our project.

Participants who will be engaged for the translate-a-thon will be given a form in order to collect their data for registration.

On the day of the project, we are going to teach the participants how to edit on translatewiki.net for hitch-free volunteering.

When the event is over, the new participants will join our Ibibio group, get added to our WhatsApp group and follow our social media pages. All the participants will be receiving updates from us and follow-up will also be conducted through one-on-one engagement, listening to the participants challenges, guiding and answering their questions as the case may be.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

The Friendly Space Policy for Wikimedia events will be adopted and the link will be shared with the participants during the registration process. It will also be shared with all the attendees at the venue of the translate-a-thon. We are going to make sure that a safe and equitable environment is provided for all the participants.
