The change we are striving to bring through this project is to address the challenges posed by homographs in the Hausa Wiktionary. Homographs, which are words with the same spelling but different meanings and pronunciations, can be a source of confusion. In the context of the Hausa language, homographs are even more complex and confusing. Some Hausa words have three different pronunciations, each with a distinct meaning.
Currently, in the Hausa Wiktionary, you can only find one definition for homograph words, which leaves out the other meanings and pronunciations. For instance, the word "Riga" has three different pronunciations, each associated with a different meaning.
To address this challenge, our main approach is to enhance the Hausa Wiktionary by focusing on homograph words. We aim to upload audio sound clips for each pronunciation of these words and attach them to the appropriate word entries. This will not only provide users with a clearer understanding of the pronunciation but also ensure that all meanings and pronunciations are accessible, reducing confusion and improving the overall quality of the Hausa Wiktionary.

The planned activities for your project are as follows:
Offline Training (One Day): Conduct a one-day in-person training session for editors to enhance their knowledge of homographs in Hausa, especially for non-native Hausa speakers.

- Educate participants on how speech sounds function within the Hausa language and their physical production.
- Empower the Hausa Wikimedians with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute effectively to the Hausa Wiktionary.
Online Training (Two Days): Host two days of online training sessions. On the first day, provide detailed explanations and expand on the topic of homograph harmony in Hausa.

- 1. Hamza DK I'm an active Wikimedian , a native Hausa speaker from Katsina State. I have organized and facilitated various Wikimedia projects, and I'm the project lead.
- 2. Yusuf Sa'adu is an experienced Wikimedian who has organized and facilitated many Wikimedia projects in Northern Nigeria. He's an administrator at Hausa Wikipedia and is highly active at Hausa Wiktionary. He graduated with a degree in Hausa in 2022.
- 3. M Bash Ne is a graduate of Aminu Kano College of Legal and Islamic Studies with studies in both Hausa and English language. He's an enthusiastic Wikimedia contributor with substantial experience in organizing Wikimedia projects.

The target participants for this project are Hausa Wikipedia editors and Hausa Wikimedians. Engagement before and during the activities: To engage participants before the activities, we will utilize various channels, including social media outlets, such as Facebook, and any other relevant platforms. The Hausa Wikimedians User Group (HWUG) on WhatsApp will be a key communication channel to reach out to participants and provide them with necessary information and updates about the project. Prior to the activities, we will actively share project details, schedules, and any preparatory materials through these channels to ensure that participants are well-informed. Follow-up with participants after the activities: After the training and writing contest activities have concluded, we will establish a discussion group or forum where participants can continue to interact. This post-activity discussion group will serve as a platform for answering questions, providing ongoing support, and encouraging ongoing contributions to the Hausa Wiktionary. It will also facilitate feedback collection to assess the impact of the training and contest, helping us improve future initiatives.
