Language as a means of communicating values, beliefs and customs. It is the means by which culture and its traditions and shared values may be conveyed and preserved. Hausa Wiktionary could serve as a means of mass media literacy with the recent introduction of New Education Policy in Nigeria, primary education in mother tongue is getting it foot. After making a critical reflection regards to our implemented projects, we saw the need to build on the processes established, the focus of this project is to make a future plan and trajectory that will enable and support us achieved a variety of goals, as a growing community we believe longer plan activities would be much applicable to our context. The plan is tailored toward enhancing logistic support, mitigate cost of data to participants, transportation cost to events which will enable participants to share skills in a mutual manner and within an academic environment, this will bolster their motivation and interest, for a sustainable editors retention of Hausa Wiktionary Volunteers, and boost our Outreach activities.

* Our primary strategy from previous completed project was collaborating with academic institutions an Wikimedia user group affiliates that work in tandem with our course, and to utilize Wiktionary as a resource tool in academic endeavors. Our partnership with Hausa Language Department of Kaduna State University and the support from NCPUG has giving us a head-start and has yielded a positive impact. We envision to establish editing hub of Hausa Wiktionary on the Campus. As number of content created is sluggishly before with poor quality contents and lack of citations, such trend has change, we intend keep up the tempo.
  • Empowering community members by enhancing their skills and contributions, increase retention rates, attract more interest from the academic community and encouraging consistent engagement among new and experienced editors in content creation, curation in this six months project. Through this a greater amount of content will be created that is both reliable, and worth encyclopedic. We plan to introduce the community members to various Wikimedia initiatives, broadening their knowledge on other contribution opportunities. As we have already establish a tradition of creating words with audio pronunciations and link images to applicable words, fully references, categorization and we shall engage participants to at least make curation to words without citation or partially created to 90% and going forward words created without references will be automatically deleted by Admins.
  • We plan to execute the following articles improvement in Wiktionary but no limited.

Etymology section will be created in subsequent words created and improved in existing ones, this will help learners, readers of Hausa Wiktionary to know the sources and development of Hausa words. Another curation to be carried out include improvement of homography words, a lot of Hausa words have similar spelling but differ in pronunciation and meaning, the Word "Gado" mean Inheritance and also Bed, its through proper definition and audio pronunciations in Hausa Wiktionary these category of words in Hausa Wiktionary will be properly understood.

  • Part of the vision is to introduce and train the existing editors on uploading free license images to Wikimedia commons, images to prioritize is those depicting places, things and symbols and link to Wiktionary. participants of the project will be train on wikidata, how to describe words in their language, words will be added to improve lexemes in wikidata.
  • We plan to view participants opinion on the quality, reliability of words that are existing In Hausa Wiktionary, what points they felt were strong or weak and how to improve them. Such as grammatical structures, definitions, genders/classes, noun plural forms. To investigate and discover opinions, studying these will allow for the implementation of significant words improvements and reader experience.
