1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Since the beginning of the 17th century, Hausa is written with a version of Arabic script known as (Ajami). Ajami has established itself as an important means of communication and a mediator of historical and contemporary knowledge in many areas of Hausa language & it is considered an Arabic-derived writing system. Ajami is still in widespread use in Hausa. The fact that Ajami has been used in Africa especially the Hausas It seems to be effective if it is used in Hausa Wiktionary because it will help to increase the number of contributors that will contribute in Hausa Wiktionary. That's to say this project will include Ajami script in every word created, while English alphabetical letter will be the main letters to be used in creating words in Hausa Wikitionary, but ajami will be included 2 help Hausa Readers. And there is also a huge errors made by Hausa Wiktionary editors, which is the inability to use the Hausa hooked letters. After Ajami, English script was invented as official Hausa writing system. But in the inventory, some consonants are not found in English. Most common of these are the hooked letters, ɓ, ɗ, ƙ and the semi vowel `y, which are entirely different from the corresponding plain letters b, d, k and y. In standard Hausa writing system it is necessary to use the hooked letters and it's been used in every Hausa Dictionary because not using it makes some words change their meaning entirely. So it's very important to use this writing system in Hausa Wiktionary most especially for Non-native Hausa to be able to learn easily and it'll help learners 2 learn without being confuse, one word will not turn into another and the learners will understand the meaning of a word perfectly. This will bring a lot of improvement in Hausa Wiktionary through the availability of Standard words and attracting of more contributors. Below examples of some words changing meaning when hooked letters are not included. https://ha.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Kalmomi_Masu_Lanƙwasa

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

The main approach and strategies we have in achieving this changes is to create 300 words that has hooked letters/Ajami in Hausa Wikitionary and to improve 300 existing Words to have hook letters and Ajami as well. And also to adopt the experience of our previous project that we have successfully carried (Files Linking in Wikitionary), that's is to say we will upload 500 audio files in Wikimedia Commons with the help of this User: Sadauki11 as fascillitor, the reason for this strategic plan is to enable Wikitionarians the ability to upload audio files themselves or track audio files were necessary in Wikimedia Commons, also to be able to create words with audio files directly whenever they intend to create words. I and User:Salisu Adamu as fascillitor we train participants how to create words with hooked letters/Ajami so that readers will absolutely understand words as it is for an effective free knowledge sharing.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

The following are the activities we will be doing as part of our strategic plans

  • We will train users how to create words with hooked letters and Ajami context.
  • We will train users how to use Ajami Arabic keyboard.
  • We will train users how to upload audio files in Wikimedia commons
  • And how to link the files in Wiktionary, so that words will be always created with audio files.
