6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The change we are striving to bring about is a significant improvement in the quality, accuracy, and accessibility of information on Wikipedia and its sister projects. We aim to transform these Wikimedia projects into more reliable, up-to-date, and user-friendly sources of knowledge by leveraging Wikidata's technical tools and enhancing the technical capabilities and skills of editors.

The primary challenges we are aiming to address are:

1. Information Inaccuracy and Outdated Content: Wikipedia and its sister projects often suffer from inaccuracies and outdated information due to the manual editing process and limited data synchronization.
2. Technical Skill Gap: Editors may lack the necessary technical skills to effectively utilize advanced tools, hindering their ability to contribute to the improvement of content quality.

To address these challenges, our main approach involves integrating Wikidata's technical tools seamlessly into the editing workflow of Wikipedia and its sister projects. This integration will enable automated data updates, ensuring information accuracy and collaboration . Additionally, we will conduct comprehensive training sessions and workshops to empower editors with the technical skills needed to navigate and utilize these tools effectively. By bridging the technical skill gap, reducing workload and enhancing data integration, we aim to elevate the reliability, accuracy, and accessibility of information on Wikimedia platforms.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

Creating Awareness About the Event: Distribute E posters, fliers, and short videos across platforms to inform and engage Wikimedian editors. Utilize designated platforms and create a WhatsApp group for interested participants, maximizing reach and interaction.

Physical Training Event: The event begins with an interactive session that educates participants about the event's importance, purpose, and goals. At the heart of this session is an introduction to Wikidata's technical tools and their capabilities, showcasing how these tools can enhance knowledge platforms. This empowers participants with a transformative perspective on the potential impact of their contributions. Skilled volunteer facilitators will then provide training, to teach and train participants how to effectively utilize various tools for enriching Wikimedia projects. This hands-on training will encompass:

  • Leveraging the power of Wikidata Query Service and SPARQL for fetching structured data and creating geographical visualizations on Wikivoyage.
  • Employing Wikibase for efficient data organization.
  • Using Lua scripting for real-time and up to date information integration.
  • Utilizing QuickStatements for accurate batch editing.
  • Employing OpenRefine for data cleaning and transformation.
  • Integrating Wikidata Infoboxes to elevate and enhance content across Wikipedia and its sister projects, encapsulating the essence of the event's objectives.

Physical Edit-a- thon: During this hands-on activity, participants will actively apply the knowledge gained in the physical training. Our team, will be readily available to offer guidance and support throughout the edit-a-thon. This session is not only an opportunity to solidify and enhance technical skills but also a chance to create tangible contributions. Participants will actively edit and enrich Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, and other sister projects. This event is a collective journey of learning, collaboration, and growth, designed to equip participants with the expertise needed to enhance and enrich Wikipedia and its sister projects.

The Online Session: is designed to provide a deeper exploration of advanced Wikidata tools such as with the aim of enhancing editing efficiency and maintaining high-quality standards. Guided by our experienced facilitators, participants will have the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of utilizing Wikidata's advanced tools to their maximum potential. Through interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on activities, participants will expand their knowledge and contribute effectively to enriching Wikimedia projects. This session serves as a valuable platform for participants to refine their expertise and gain insights into leveraging Wikidata's tools for impactful content enhancement.

Contest: This empowers participants to leverage their training by improving articles, enhancing content quality, and fostering collaboration. This dynamic effort significantly enriches their technical skills and Wikipedia and its sister projects, benefiting the global knowledge community.

I have extensive experience in working with open datasets, incorporating them into data analysis processes and utilizing them for meaningful insights. In particular, I have developed expertise in working on the successful integration of structured data into Wikipedia, Wikivoyage and Wikibooks articles. I have effectively employed Wikidata's query service, crafting SPARQL queries to retrieve and present data, visualizations on different areas, mentored editors on using OpenRefine and Lua Scripting.I also presented at the Wikimania Singapore 2023 on Open Data Track alongside Lydia Pintscher(WMDE) on how to benefit from wikidata(https://pretalx.com/wm2023/talk/review/DJXC9FTS97JZLW3N8A8GGSBW7PG3EMMA). I am confident that my experience and knowledge of incorporating Wikidata technical tools to enrich wikimedia projects will help me facilitate a productive event.

Favourdare123(Co-facilitator and communications): Favourdare123, is a seasoned editor and proficient trainer. Notably, he led the Wikimedia Hackathon 2022 in Ilorin, showcasing his leadership and organizational skills. His technical prowess is evident through his adept use of QuickStatements for performing batch edits, streamlining the editing process. his contributions extend to enhancing Wikipedia's content quality, particularly in integrating infobox data for various historical landmarks across multiple articles. 9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

The target participants for our project include both new and existing editors within the Nigerian Wikimedia community with little to no technical editing skills and Proficiency. As well as for those who are interested in exploring the opportunities for utilizing Wikidata for their own projects. We aim to engage participants through a multi-faceted approach;

1. Engagement before Activities:
  • Prior to the physical training/event, we will initiate an outreach campaign to inform and invite participants. This will include sharing E-posters and fliers across relevant platforms of our target participants to create awareness and generate interest.
  • We will also create a dedicated WhatsApp group for participants to ask questions, share expectations, and connect with fellow attendees. This group will foster a sense of community and encourage pre-event discussions.

2. Engagement during Activities:
- During the physical training/event, interactive sessions and presentations will ensure active participation. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions, seek clarifications, and engage in discussions with facilitators and fellow attendees.
  • Hands-on activities like the edit-a-thon will enable direct engagement, as participants collaborate and contribute in real time. Facilitators will be readily available to offer guidance, ensuring a productive and enriching experience.
- As part of our broader vision, we aspire to create the first Wikidata Technical online community in Nigeria. This community will serve as a hub for ongoing collaboration, discussion, and support beyond the initial training activities.

3. Follow-up after Activities:
- After the event, we will utilize the established WhatsApp group to provide post-event support and answer any follow-up questions. This will help participants build upon the skills and knowledge acquired.
  • A post-event survey will be distributed to collect feedback, allowing us to assess the effectiveness of the training and identify areas for improvement. This feedback loop will guide our future endeavors and tailor our engagement strategies.

By engaging participants before, during, and after the activities, and by aiming to create the first Wikidata Technical online community in Nigeria, we strive to establish a dynamic and supportive learning environment that encourages ongoing participation and growth within the Wikidata community.

To ensure community engagement and learning, we'll host regular online events (webinars, workshops, hackathons), organize community challenges, collaborate with Wikimedia groups for expertise and promotion, provide mentorship programs, maintain dedicated online forums and channels for communication, and facilitate resource sharing within the Nigerian Wikidata Technical community. These initiatives aim to foster participation, knowledge sharing, and a sense of belonging among community members.
