Folklore documentation of Tulunadu's Pursereg‌ kaṭṭana

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Tulunadu is the name of coastal Karnataka. Different communities and religions cohabit in this small version of India. They are intrinsically connected to the regional tradition and culture and relate to the way of life. The region exhibits a complex universe of behaviours, rituals, beliefs, traditions, and entertainment. It is essential to appreciate the meaning, nature, and structure of these practices to understand their purpose in a traditional Tuluva community.

Pursere kattuna and purusa makksla kunita, is a type of traditional and religious dance. In the Tulu calendar month of Suggi, the Tulu Gowda people of Sullia, Belthangady, and Puttur celebrate a full-moon summer dance. Siddavesha performs from late at night until early in the morning and visits every stratum of society's homes.

It is important that the Siddavesha/Pursere Kattuna Folk Art should be documented. This folk art has not received patronage from the public as much as other public art forms. Customs and costumes are fading with each year, and soon they will all be a thing of the past. Therefore, it is crucial to document and safeguard the cultural ethos for upcoming generations.

There are more than 20-30 artists who are taking different characters and making this documentation. There are a number of different characters performing Dasayya, Bhatru, Sansyasi, Koraga, Koti Chennaya, Beetle Purbu, Byari, piliyesa etc. Therefore, we would like to record this oral history of culture through reports, photos, and videos, with text-performance documentation of folk dance. For that, we want to be in touch with the local people and persuade them to record the explicit expression of their capabilities. We've already attempted to communicate with the people. Still, some rituals will be performed at the most auspicious time of day or night, according to the Tulu calendar, either during the day or after sunset.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

1. Visiting the residents and learning the significance of the documentation of Purusha Kattuna/Siddavesha.

2. In search of already published papers and articles ( recently there is no development).
3. Assembling the group of folklorists and performing arts specialists.
4. Since we previously took a two-day Photothon of Siddavesha, we are mentally ready for detailed documentation. (,_Live_-_Text,_Performance,_Documentation)
5. We’ve already contacted the videographer's team experts, who specialise in documenting late-night performance folk art.
6. Our team of Karavali Wikimedians User Group maintain consistent oversight over implementation to ensure that things go smoothly Keep a close eye on potential problems, and address any issues in a timely manner. Define metrics to measure success, and continually monitor them to make sure our documentation is on track.
3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

To achieve the goal of this project, different activities will be carried out. They include

1. Organise internet and print media outreach to acquire more data.
2. Find the volunteers this initiative needs to be successful. One who has previously worked in folklore documentation
3. Plan at least two or three field trips to capture Siddavesha folklore as told or displayed by Tulu natives.
4. Identify and select sites or locations for documentation.
5. We will make sure that photographers work in various areas as part of our approach. Having photographers work at a different locations is a successful technique to achieve the required outcomes
6. We will equally organise an upload-a-thon and an edit-a-thon after the recording. This is to enable us to upload the multimedia files to Wikimedia Commons and thereafter link the files to relevant Wikipedia articles.
4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.
