The Federal Ministry of Education's policies in Nigeria, prioritize Information and Communications Technology as a 21st-century skill that provides access to information online but provide little stimulation for prioritizing digital literacy and Open Educational Resources to develop vital Media and Information Literacy skills for secondary school students in Nigeria. Most of these students do not understand how information is produced, access and evaluated online to understand biases and knowledge gaps. Research has shown that most of the Edtech partners focused only on developing alternative learning models for the new normal.

In an era marked by the rapid proliferation of information and the omnipresence of digital media, the need for robust Media and Information Literacy (MIL) skills has never been more critical. The proliferation of information online has increased misinformation and disinformation among students and teachers who resort to using internet for various purposes .There are are low level of utilization of media and Information literacy rate among secondary school students in their schools . It is against this backdrop, the successful pilot implementation of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Abuja Program for secondary school teachers in Abuja, Nigeria has illuminated the path forward, casting a spotlight on the transformation potential of comprehensive media and information education. With this success in mind, there is a compelling imperative to extend the program to the very heart of the educational ecosystem: secondary school teachers and students.

The forthcoming follow-up edition of the program is designed to target secondary school students within Abuja, Nigeria.This program will work along with teachers who have graduated from Reading Wikipedia In the Class room Abuja program 2023 . These teachers will step down the training to their students in the class room. It aims to build their capacity in Media and Information Literacy skills and empower them with the tools to navigate the digital landscape effectively. The program will also introduce them to the world of Open Education Resources (OER) and illustrate how these resources can complement their learning journeys. Moreover, it will foster a culture of lifelong learning, equipping students with skills that will not only serve them in the classroom but throughout their lives. This project will help correct;

A. Misinformation, disinformation and fake news on the internet. B. Low media and Information literacy rate among secondary school students in Abuja, Nigeria. C. The misconception of Wikipedia among secondary school students The longer term changes we aim to bring about through this initiative are:

1. Empowering students as a Critical Thinkers: In a world awash with information, students must develop the ability to discern credible sources from unreliable ones, separate fact from fiction, and critically evaluate the media they consume. The program will empower students to think critically, thus making them more discerning consumers of information.
2. Nurturing Students to improve their Digital literacy skills : By enhancing students' Media and Information Literacy skills, we enable them to navigate the digital landscape safely, ethically, and effectively. In a society where online engagement is increasingly integral to everyday life, these skills are indispensable.
3. Cultivating Lifelong Learners: Perhaps most importantly, this program aspires to cultivate a love for learning that extends far beyond the classroom. Students who possess strong MIL skills and know how to harness OER are more likely to become lifelong learners, continuously seeking knowledge and self-improvement.

In conclusion, the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Abuja Program for secondary school students represents an invaluable opportunity to equip the next generation with the skills and tools they need to thrive in the digital age. By building their capacity in Media and Information Literacy skills, introducing them to Open Education Resources, and nurturing lifelong learning habits, we aspire to empower students to become responsible, informed, and active participants in the 21st-century world. This endeavor is not only timely but also essential for the holistic development of our students and the society they will shape in the years to come.

Project goal: To train 60 teachers on Media and information literacy using reading Wikipedia in the class room modules Our goal is to localize and increase the number of certified teachers to 60 by recruiting 6 certified teachers that were trained at the first pilot program in Abuja, Nigeria. The six (6) certified will step down the training to ten(10) teachers in each school making a total of 60 teachers, from 6 selected secondary school on the effective usage of Wikipedia as a learning tool for retrieving, creating, and evaluating information before October March 2024. after the step down training in the 6 six secondary school, the newly trained teachers will create awareness and educate 50 students from each secondary school bu using the reading wikipedia in the class room fast students guide. This strategy will help to scale the program to six schools in Abuja and help to set up a wikiclub through the teachers in the schools and it is also cost effective . The teachers who will enroll in this program, will be able to understand, access, retrieve, and evaluate information on Wikipedia and its sister projects. The planned activities has two parts namely: Part 1: To educated and improve media and information literacy skills among 90 secondary students in Abuja, Nigeria. Part 2 : To trained 60 new teacher in secondary schools, 10 new teachers will be trained from each secondary schools making a total of 60 new certified teachers. A certified teacher who have been trained in the first pilot training will coordinate and work with project leads to step down training in their school .

Part 1: To educated and improve media and information literacy skills among 300 students across 6 secondary schools in Abuja, Nigeria The 10 certified teacher that will be trained from each of the 6 school will educate 50 students each making a total of 300 students that will be aware of Wikipedia as a learning resouces that will foster their media and information literacy skills: 10 certified teachers who graduated from the school edition will step down the training to 50 students through these activities:

1. Awareness creation about UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Framework as a teaching tool to help students grasp the various phases of the information cycle.
2. Educating students: The certified teachers will educate 50 Students on the various uses of the Wikimedia project and which will improve their perception of Wikipedia and other sister projects
3. The certified teacher will use a knowledge quest to instruct pupils about the Wikipedia basic content policies.
4. Certified RWIC teachers introduce the students on wikipedia interface and how to navigate the interface
5. Teacher gives the students a copy of the fast guide Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom so they may learn how to incorporate Wikipedia into their class activities especially for research and evaluation. .
5. Permit qualified RWC teachers to include their RWC lesson plans into the usual classroom activities they conduct with their students.
6. Students from secondary schools are trained and recruited in Abuja for the Eduwiki secondary school club.


Part 2 : To trained 60 new teacher in 6 secondary schools in Abuja, working with 6 teachers who were already certified during the first pilot program. The training will carry out the following training activities. Day 1: Module 1: Accessing information Learning Outcomes

2. teachers will be able to debate the merits of Wikipedia as a sources of information
3. teachers will be able to use Wikipedia to gain a general understanding of a topic.

After the success of first implementation of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom for Teachers in Secondary School Students in Abuja, Nigeria. This project will be implemented by the two leader trainers namely Dike Clement and Isamail Atiba who were led the first pilot program of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom, Abuja, Nigeria with funding from the Wikimedia Foundation and support, recommendation as well as a partnership from the Wikimedia Education, Wikimedia Nigeria User Group, the Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Education, Teachers registration council of Nigeria and School proprietors,. The team implementation team includes two certified trainers of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Program in Abuja, Nigeria

1. Mr. Dike Clement Enyinnaya, Username : Dike Clement is a Certified Trainer of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program. He was the lead trainer, reading Wikipedia in the class room for the Abuja Pilot project .

In the program Dike Clement will be 1st Lead Trainer and doubles data analyst expert . He will be in charge of planning, localizing the curriculum, facilitating all training sessions with the co-trainers, issuing certificates for teachers, and writing the final report. Working on a part time capacity localize curriculum, create designs pieces for the program,prepare data collection tools, distribute survey, analyze finding through out the period of the program from planning, implementation, evaluation and report writing. as well as be paid for his services

2.Ismail Atiba (Atibrarian) is a Certified Trainer of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program. He was the lead trainer, reading Wikipedia in the class room for the Abuja Pilot project. He is the pioneer of the Gombe Wikimedia community and the founder of the Wikimedia User-Group Nigeria.

In the program, he is the 2nd lead trainer, he will be responsible for localizing curriculum, prepare data collection tools, distribute survey, analyze findings, Work on a part time capacity through out the period of the program from planning, implementation, evaluation and report writing. Collating and Interpreting the pre-assessment needs, interview questions, and post evaluation surveys, using visualizations. He will be paid for her services.

3.Ikye Benjamin Aondoungwa is a certifed teacher trainer of reading wikipedia in the class room , he currently teachers at Nature Nurtured Basic Academy, Chukuku, Kuje-Abuja, He will provide a training venue for the his students in his school and will also create connection and coordination with the school authority for the training. The target participants are are teachers and students in secondary schools in Federal Capital Abuja, Nigeria. We are reaching to teachers and students in 3 secondary school, Abuja. 3 Certified RWIC Teachers who participated in the first pilot program in Abuja will be part of the implementation. We have already being invited by 3 of these teachers who have graduated from this first pilot program. A total of 3 teachers will work as step- down trainers and each teacher will educate a minimum of 30 students on media and information literacy skills using the students guides. The teachers and students will be engaged through the class room and offline training and after the training we will create a feedback and follow up strategy by creating an online channel like Telegram, Facebook and whats-app group. Our follow up strategy will help provide participants feedback, links or training support on Wikipedia and its' sister project.

In addition,  the follow up strategy will help us to evaluate the impact of the program. We will engage students  At the end of the program,  We will  be encouraging   the teachers  and students to continue to improve their media and information literacy skills through Wikipedia  by creating  a reading  Wikipedia in the classroom club in the school.

For the safety and protection of children in this program we will contact school and parents and ask the students to seek permission from their parents and we will give them an endorsement letter that their parents will sign indicating their approval for their kids to enroll in this program and also orient the certified teachers that will be delivering training so that they understand the policy and abide by the guideline when they are stepping down the training to their students..
