Federal University Dutse, located in Jigawa State, Nigeria, is a well-respected institution with students from various regions and a dedicated faculty and staff. Our aim is to introduce Wikimedia projects to this diverse community. Despite some positive developments, we've recognized certain challenges The change we aim to bring is the introduction and promotion of Wikimedia projects at Federal University Dutse. The main challenges or problems we're trying to solve include a dearth of active editors, limited awareness of Wikimedia projects, and the absence of organized campaigns to engage a diverse population. Our main approaches to achieve this change involve organizing awareness and workshops about Wikimedia projects, and establishing a Wiki community meetup. These efforts are intended to build a solid foundation for the widespread adoption and use of Wikimedia projects within the university and the broader community.

1. One-Day School Trips and Campus Outreach: We will organize one-day trips within the school premises, distributing informative flyers and engaging in discussions with both students and teachers. Our goal is to raise awareness about Wikimedia projects and encourage their participation.

During these workshops, we will delve into two key aspects of Wikimedia engagement:
- Day 1 - Account Creation and Contribution: The first day of the workshop will be dedicated to teaching participants how to create accounts on Wikimedia platforms and how they can actively contribute to projects like Wikidata, Wikipedia, and Wikimedia Commons.
- Day 2 - Edit-a-thon for Local Content: On the second day, we will focus on an Edit-a-thon. This involves actively improving local content on platforms like Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata. Participants will have the opportunity to enhance and enrich information about their local area.
- 3. Two-Day Online Meetup:
We will organize a two-day online meetup with the following objectives:
- Day 1 - Training: The first day of the online meetup will be dedicated to training participants on various aspects of Wikimedia projects. This includes practical guidance on editing, sourcing, and referencing.
- Day 2 - Guiding and Understanding: On the second day, the online meetup will shift focus to guiding participants and ensuring they understand the intricacies of Wikimedia projects. - Details: A'm a experienced Wikimedian with a track record of organizing multiple Wikimedia projects, including Wikimedia Promotion at Hadeji this project covered all five Emirates councils of Jigawa State, during the project we have toured Federal University Dutse. I also facilitated various Wikimedia initiatives, such as Wikimedia Promotion at Yusuf Maitama University Kano.

We've also talked to the Student Affairs Office through this team member, and they are supportive of our project. Having this team member involved will help participants feel more connected and excited about taking part in Wikimedia activities. All team members are enthusiastic volunteers with significant experience in Wikimedia projects, ensuring the success and impact of this grant application.

Our target participants are students and staff at Federal University Dutse and the broader Jigawa State community. We'll engage them by using campus flyers, social media, direct communication, and an online presence before the activities. During the events, we'll have interactive discussions and hands-on training. Afterward, we'll maintain engagement through regular communication, online meetups, and ongoing support to encourage their continued involvement in Wikimedia projects. The goal is to create a supportive and sustained community of contributors.
