Documenting Khmer Temples of Cambodia project is envisaged to be completed in two phases, they are:

1. Filling the gaps in Khmer temple architecture and history of Cambodia in Wikimedia Commons, mainly Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom and other related historic monuments by uploading their photos to Wikimedia Commons. These UNESCO World Heritage Sites are not given the due recognition they deserve in Wikimedia Commons.

2. The second part is translating or creating articles related Cambodia in Malayalam Wikipedia with an Online Editathon using the photos taken from Cambodia in those articles. In Malayalam Wikipedia there are only a handful of articles about Cambodia now. This editathon will start once the photos are uploaded to Commons and the target is a minimum of two hundred new articles in Malayalam Wikipedia about Cambodia.

3. In addition to these main activities we will try to document the plants and insects of Cambodia, a work both of us are very pasionate about.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

The planned activities are:

  • Taking photos of monuments and temples and everything related to Khmer history of Cambodia. (September 2024 to February 2025)
  • Sorting, categorizing and uploading these photos to Wikimedia Commons later in India. (February 2025 to April 2025)
  • Online editathon creating/translating articles about Cambodia with the engagement of Malayalam Wikipedia Community (May 2025 to August 2025)

Team helping to advice, take photos, sort, categorise and upload photos to Wikimedia Commons and translate Cambodia related articles to Malayalam. All of them are volunteers.

  • Netha Hussain (User:Netha_Hussain) - Advisor and co-ordinator of the project. Giving directions of the activities. She has successfully organised the vaccine editathon in 2021.
  • Vijayakumar Blathur (User:Vijayakumarblathur) - Mr. Vijayakumar and I will be taking photos in Cambodia for this project.
9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

The participants are from Wikipedia Malayalam Community. Most of them have been editing Wikipedia for quite long time. Vijayakumar and myself will be going to Cambodia to take photos. Netha Hussain will co-ordinate the editathon. Malayalam Wikipedia community members supported ardently all the past projects we have organised.

I was the main organiser of two Wikipedia Malayalam projects. They were: 1. Tenth anniversary celebration of Malayalam Wikipedia in 2012 introducing an entire village school to Wikipedia (https://w.wiki/AcLv) 2. A two day Wikipedia study class for around 80 school students in 2016 (https://w.wiki/AcLz)

In these two events the Malayalam community supported whole heartedly and in the coming event too they will be supporting with all their might.
