6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

This approach is important to Rwanda. Depending on the least to no number of people with disabilities who are actively contributing to Wikimedia projects in Rwanda, and the lack of availability of the most useful information for people with disabilities on Kinyarwanda Wikipedia like their representative organizations, awareness of assistive devices and assistive technology, the government and non-government programs that offer funding and treatment, and other relevant information. This will result in recruiting new Wikimedians, especially those with disabilities, and also it will be a great initiative where collaboratively among those newly recruited editors and the other experienced editors will implement the editathon to fill the gap in knowledge on Kinyarwanda Wikipedia about the above-indicated pieces of information that we are lacking on Kinyarwanda Wikipedia. This will enrich the encyclopedia which will lead to unleashing the potential of everyone to access neutral information, and the implementation framework of this initiative will be under the contribution to the implementation of UN SDGs17: Partnership for the Goals and UN SDGs 10: Reduced inequalities.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

To enhance diversity in our active community members who are contributing to Wikimedia projects, we look forward to partnering with Uwezo Youth Empowerment where we will work with their volunteers who are willing to know Wikimedia and how to contribute to Wikimedia’s various projects, especially Wikipedia.

We are planning to have one day of training where we will teach the attendees Wikimedia, as well as the various ways to contribute to Wikimedia’s projects by using the skills obtained during the Africa Growth Pilot course. And we will have 3 online follow-up sessions.

After equipping our attendees with various ways to contribute to Wikimedia projects, we will start a two-week edit-a-thon contest that will focus on providing articles on Kinyarwanda Wikipedia that will focus on raising awareness of non-government organizations for people with disabilities, awareness of assistive devices, and assistive technology, the government and non-government programs that offer funding and treatment to the people with disability.

We will have a physical session that will be for reflecting on the activity that we have been working on and receiving feedback through the survey filled out by participants concerning the challenges they faced and their willingness to continue contributing to Wikimedia projects, and we will recognize the 5 best participants of our contest and we will award them the gift cards and also we will provide certificates for all participants.

8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.

17. What do you hope to learn from your work in this project or proposal? (required)

I expect that this project will enhance the active contributors to Wikimedia projects through the training approach that we will use in training them and the intention of follow-up, this project will also be a great opportunity for extending the network that will also help the participants to contribute confidently as they will be having someone to ask anything whenever they face issue during contributing as they will be paired with the experienced editors who will also guide them. I expect that this project will lead to the creation of new articles about non-government organizations for people with disabilities, awareness of assistive devices, and assistive technology, and the government and non-government programs that offer funding and treatment to people with disabilities.
