- R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.
- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
The change am trying to bring about is to improve items on Wikidata as most items are lacking information and also, to ensure that items on Wikidata are having the right and relevant information to them, by combing existing items (checking and removing errors), removing unreliable sources, adding reliable sources, checking and removing grammar/spelling errors, removing duplicate items and also ensuring properties are having the correct values to them etc. The primary purpose is to improve the quality, reliability, and credibility of Wikidata items lacking information as we are having a lot of items with no relevant information nor sources (reference) for information accuracy.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
My first approach is, I will be providing a list of Wikidata items lacking information so editors can go on to improve the items with relevant information. This approach or strategy will not only improve the quality and credibility of an item but will also help experience editors to gain new knowledge and also rekindle what they already know, i.e. it will refresh their minds on what they have already learnt. Another approach I will deploy during the course of the training is to organize a contest whereby participant will search/comb for items lacking information and improve them.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
Part of the activities I will be developing is to organize an in-person and a virtual event that will rekindle the skill of experience editors and to increase participation of already existing hubs.
- They in-person workshop will comprise of both new and experience participants to edit Wikidata items wanting relevant information.
- They online event will focus on increasing the participation and skills of members of existing WhatsApp group from previous successful project
- There will be a contest to award those participants with the highest number of items edited wanting relevant information.
