Previously, during our most recent project organized in 2023, we focused on recruiting participants and developing contents that cut across topics and areas including; Geography, People, Culture, Wildlife, Rivers, Theatre and Films, Sports, History, Languages/Race etc. all in our efforts to bridge the existing content gap issues on Fulfulde Wikipedia and also to provide readers with information on the diverse topics and areas thereby keeping them active visitors of Fulfulde Wikipedia, and so, the effect of which is noticed from the rapid increase in page views of Fulfulde Wikipedia as shown by the Wikimedia Stats Tool and this show how greatly the importance the diversity of topics can play in helping small language versions of Wikipedias like Fulfulde can grow and this made the Art+Feminism an important opportunity to help us develop art and women related contents for our underrepresented communities from underrepresentive perspectives. In addition, going by the current situation of Fulfulde Wikipedia we believe participating in Art and Feminism Campaign will not only help us in bridging content gaps by developing articles related to Arts, Feminism and/or women only but also help us in solving/over coming these problems or challenges:

  • Community Mobilization/Engagement: it was just recently that we launched four new networks/hubs in our community with aimed of bringing more impacts and engagement amongst the Fula Wikipedia editors. Therefore, our participation in Art+Feminism campaign will in one hand become the first writing related campaign to bring in involvement of all these launched networks of Wikimedia Fulfulde Community which are geographically distant from each other to mobilize their members and engage new ones to take part.
  • Competitive Atmosphere/Environment: since it was just a month from the launching of our new networks, we believe all eyes of the general members of Wikimedia Fulfulde Community are open now looking forward to what event is coming up in order to give their optimum best, members of each network are hoping for a chance to showcase their strength in order to lay a claim of being the most active group and this competitive environment will help keep the spirit of our editors especially the new ones to keep on even after the campaign.
  • Technical Support/Machine Translation: the newly launched version of the MinT support Fulfulde language and this will be a great opportunity to introduce the general community of Fula Wikipedia editors to this Content Translations Tool as it has been our long awaited dream as that would help the editors in creating more relevant articles, faster and easier. Additionally, being a community that is supported by WMF in purchasing certain equipment like; a projector, sound system and a router this will helps us at this early time of the year, to strengthen our technical team by training some participants (from each network/hub) on how to operate these tools and how they are maintained. This is prepare them before hand as we foresee a greater development and growth coming to our community.
  • Solidarity and Involvement: as an underrepresented community working on a small Wikipedia version of an underreprensented language, we believe taking part in Wikimedia movement campaigns is of highly importance as through that we can get the chance to associate and learn from more advanced Groups. Also, going by the theme: Solidarity we considered it a call that request the participation of not just bigger communities but also small, underrepresented communities like us. Moreover, we have since before the last year edition participated in many online sessions of Art+feminism and was contacted by the regional Ambassador of Art+Feminism, Zita Ursula Zage in the previous year who shared some relevant materials with our community that gave us in-depth knowledge as to what the campaign is all about. This year also, we were contacted by Jude and from Art+Feminism and will be receiving support from her to make this event a success.
  • Reducing Content gaps/Content Enrichment: our participation in Art+Feminism campaign will help us in developing contents that could help bridge gender gaps and enrich the Fulfulde Wikipedia which now gets near to zero articles on arts and very few articles related to women.
  • Community Building/New Participants Recruitment: the campaign will gives us an excellent opportunity to increase the number of our community members as well as the impact, especially women as we currently have fewer than 20% number of female contributors when compared to men and also this would help us increase the capacity of existing volunteers.
7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

We plan to conduct the the campaign by following these steps:

  • We would spend time in preparing a list of articles for translation which would be use by the participants to ensure that their contributions is within the scope of Art+Feminism and/or aligned with the theme. This will help in keeping especially new and inexperience participants from overlapping to topics irrelevant to the campaign.
  • We will be organizing a meet-up and training edit-a-thon at the beginning of the campaign to introduce the new participants on the values of Art+Feminism, how to edit Wikipedia, using the Content Translation Tools etc. and retrain/add more knowledge to the experience participants on the areas we realized they are needing more coaching and support.
  • Hold on air interviews to promote the Art+Feminism campaign in Fulfulde Language reaching out to more Fulfulde language speakers.
  • Create an online meeting space to share feedback and encourage the participants at the end of campaign to keep their spirit up before planning on another activity.
