Our programs, approaches and strategies are centered around developing the community in different aspects. We prioritize 3 main approaches to address the challenges we have identified so far:
Education and soft skills development program
WoALUG offers various educational initiatives and soft skills development to empower people with the necessary knowledge to increase their soft skills they need in life.
Community engagement on Outreach and GLAM
This approach involves active engagement with the community through workshops, training sessions, information training, outreach, campaigns and different competitions.
Sustainable development initiatives
We believe sustainability through developing edit-a-thons, campaigns will promote it among people to contribute to a more sustainable future. Last April, we developed an 4-hour edit-a-thon related to environmental topics, climate change and health to raise awareness and engage more people with sustainable principles.
Challenges addressed:
- Limited access to quality education
- Limited public awareness about Wikimedia projects
- Resistance to change
- Lack of participation of teachers and schools
- Lack of computers and internet access when collaborating with all our partners from different programs
- Bureaucracy, which slows down the decision-making and stops innovation
Support strategies
Collaborative partnerships Seeking new partnerships and strengthening the collaboration with local organizations, educational and governmental institutions to increase our impact and address challenges effectively.
Empowerment through knowledge sharing Providing access to knowledge and training, we empower people, contributors and volunteers to contribute independently to the Wikimedia projects and others.
Capacity building and training Through the GLAM projects, such as Wikimedian in Residence, we offer training to our partners on the projects´objectives, effective processes with a goal to create a shared understanding and decision-making.
