Our program and approach are both quite broad, though we mostly focus on education, GLAM, and communication.
We are planning to deal with both basic and adult education. For example, this year we organized many introductive lessons about Wikipedia at different secondary schools aimed specifically at the senior level of high school students. In addition, we also cooperated with Tartu Public University, where we will also provided Wikipedia training as part of the adult learner campaign. Gradually, we have also moved towards the interest group of seniors, and we plan to involve seniors in our activities in the future. One great example of making that goal true is the activity in our Wiki Club that usually takes place once every month. The involvement of various interest groups related to education could serve both our, and the goals of the education sector. We share Wikipedia knowledge and build media literacy, and students can practice academic writing skills. Moreover, we intend to promote wiki clubs and increase the number of photo expeditions to help us reach a wider geographic area. We are especially keen on continuing our cooperation with our partners in Wikimedia Finland (WMFI) thus expanding free cultural and knowledge space and developing towards both seniors and college students alike in the realms of education.
Working in the GLAM field brings specific interest groups even closer and, we are glad to announce, our interests and those of the institutions mostly overlap. Museums are mostly interested in sharing their developed materials after the exhibition is over rather than leave them collecting dust in a drawer. Last good example from the year 2023 has been the successful cooperation with the Museum of Ruhnu. A small local museum with very specific and interesting collections of Estonian Swedish cultural heritage, has reported being eager to continue our collaboration in the future! Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons provide a good platform for all this and we are continuously working towards creating a WikiMuseum.
Our main strategy is approaching new and specific GLAM as well as educational interest groups. In Estonia, the field of education is controversial - on one hand, many new possibilities of the digital world and e-Estonia are included. We embrace that and try to become an attractive opportunity for pupils and not a barrier. This way we can involve our cities and people all over the country and be free to develop our Wikipedia (et Vikipeedia). We also hold various competitions every year, so that in addition to so-called “old contributors”, new people can also start to contribute. In order to reach this goal we have a newcomer award for language editing works (et Keeletoimetamistalgud) which have attracted newcomers every year.
Our communication supports all the previously mentioned fields. In order to increase motivation for writing on Wikipedia, we are planning to continue to organize writing, editing, and photo competitions. We want to be part of the copyright field and continue to stand for freedom of panorama. With the help of effective communication, we can easily reach the desired interest groups. This way we can reach interested parties faster and help them more effectively. In addition, we are actively collecting motivational stories from our editors, former members of board, active Wikipedians etc. Media presence is also one of our recent focus points and this year we have managed to reach continuously more on different mediums (for an example national newspaper Eesti Ekspress etc).

We would like to emphasize that 20% increase in salaries are based on a fact that last year our wages in WMEE did not change and as during the past two years economical climate has shifted rapidly towards worsened state the 10% increase per year is the minimum requirement for backing our employees´ economical well-being. In 2022 alone, inflation in Estonia was over 20% and current year around 11%. In order to retain our employees´ purchasing power and secure them a reasonable wage, we kindly hope that you are able to comply us and lessen our employees´ worries about economical hardship.
