Looking at the current situation of women’s and girl’s perspective and underrepresentation in Northern Nigeria in Wikipedia, especially in Hausa speaking community, This project “ Enhance Gender Equality through Wikimedia in Jigawa state’’ Will save as a pillar to encourage and motivate more women’s and young growing girls to engage and participate in editing Wikipedia and contribute to free knowledge at large. This program will attempt to bring changes in:
- 1. Promoting gender education through Wikipedia:
Educations play a crucial role in promoting gender equality. It is a powerful tool that can be help to break down gender equality and expose more women’s and girl’s to reach their full potentials. This can only be achieved faster through creating new articles in Wikipedia that are related to gender equality or improved the existing article that cover the aspect of gender equality.
- 2. Reducing underrepresentation of women’s and girl’s in editing Wikipedia:
considered the important of Wikipedia in our society as free knowledge podium, many women’s and girls are facing obstacles in participating in Wikipedia and its sister project either from parents or guidance. As a result of that, this project will focus fully in creating awareness for the peoples to understand the important of women’s and girl’s contribution to knowledge in our society.
- 3. Overcome gender discrimination through Wikipedia:
Gender discrimination is a significant issue that affects women and young girls in Jigawa state particularly. Women and girls of this region are subjected to various form of discrimination, including limited access to education as well as cultural practices and belief that perpetuate gender based stereotype. Having this issue, the program will developed a well strategies and fully awareness on the consequence of gender harassment, gender stereotype and gender based violence by visiting some schools (i.e FEDERAL UNIVERISTY DUTSE, SULE LAMIDO UNIVERSITY KAFIN HAUSA AND HUSAINI ADAMU FEDERAL POLYTECNICS KAZUARE). In summarization this program will promote gender education, reduction of underrepresentation of women’s and girls in Wikipedia and overcome gender discrimination through proper awareness among the Jigawa state higher institution of research and learning.

- Our main work would purposively consider the recruit and train of female students from some of the selected schools ( i.e FUD, SLU and Husaini Adamu federal polytechnics ) in Jigawa state to become an active editors on Wikipedia, and also to motivate them to know the important of gender equality in Jigawa state and northern part of Nigeria through Wikipedia. Among the procedure we are going to followed in achieving this,
Collaboration with the Staff and Student Deanery affairs: This strategy will be effectives because it will create a strong linkage and understanding between my team and the staff of the schools in promoting Wikipedia. Create awareness and training: This will guide them on how to edit Wikipedia, create new content, improved the existing articles among others. And also it will address the level of underrepresentation and women’s perspective toward editing Wikipedia. Collectively this are strategies will focus mainly on creating new contents that cover gender equality in Wikipedia and improved the existing articles that are related to gender equality. The target participant of this project “Enhance Gender Equality through Wikimedia in Jigawa state” are female students from some selected higher institution in Jigawa state. This projects aims to fill the gap of gender discrimination and underrepresentation of women’s and young girls perspective in editing Wikipedia, this can be done through collaboration with expertise from the schools and some government organization in Northern Nigeria. This project will also put more effort in monitoring the newly recruit editors to make sure they acquired a necessary skills and knowledge in giving their best ability in editing Wikipedia. This project will also work tirelessly to make sure there is proper feedback, from the both newly recruit editor and retrained editors in accomplishing the target as plan by continue organizing online training for the editors especially the newly recruits.

This is part of our strategies to work hard and make sure that we have provide more than 150 new articles and improved more than 100 existing articles that cover the gender equality and also trained 30 new recruit female editors. And also to embark on proper awareness in some selected schools in Jigawa State (FEDERAL UNIVERSITY DUTSE, SULE LAMIDO UNIVERSITY KAFIN HAUSA and HUSAINI ADAMU FEDERAL POLYTCHNICS KAZAURE) by collaborating with Academic experts in promoting gender equality through Wikipedia.
Uploading some photos related to gender discrimination in commons: Identify some key photos that are related to gender equality and upload them on Wikimedia commons as part of our awareness effort to highlights the consequence of gender inequality in our society through collaboration with some organization in Nigeria i.e National Human Right Commission (NHM)

We are going to create more than 150 new articles in Wikipedia that cover gender equality and improved more than 100 existing articles that are related to gender equality. Step by steps are going to follow in insuring our new recruit editors have the training of editing Wikipedia. The first stage, is awareness, we are going to embark on proper awareness to make sure all our editors have basic knowledge of editing Wikipedia, second Stage the editors will be recruit after proper awareness to improve their skills in editing Wikipedia, then the measuring of outcomes will follow, that involve monitoring and eovaluation to make we have accomplished out targets.

yes i have a strong team and experienced editors that dedicated their time in promoting Wikipedia from both Hausa Wikipedia community and Fulfulde Wikipedia user group and also from WikiForHumanRight. my team have a vast experience and also posses all the criteria of training young recruit editors properly.
