- Post-Meeting Follow-Up
- Following the meeting, James Hare was invited to present on Wikidata at a meeting of the open data working group, an interagency group including personnel responsible for the Data.gov portal and other data dissemination initiatives within the U.S. government.
- We planned a follow-up meeting on January 27, 2016. However, that meeting was canceled due to a delayed opening of government offices caused by a blizzard that dumped almost two feet of snow on a southeastern city not well prepared for this kind of thing.

- What worked well?
- The meeting included broad participation from organizations with differing levels of experience, including agencies that have hired staff to work on Wikipedia, agencies that have staffers who have edited Wikipedia, and agencies that have had no experience. This mix allowed us to understand each other's experiences and perspectives with Wikipedia. The presentations also provided context for thorough, in-depth discussion on topics relevant to Wikipedia and government collaboration with Wikipedia, deepening the participants' understanding. It also gave Wikimedia DC an opportunity to meet potential points of contact within the government.
- What didn't work?
- We attempted to fit too much into the schedule, and could not address every topic we wanted to address. However, this did not derail the meeting; the in-depth conversation was valuable for better understanding the topic and we de-prioritized less important subjects.
- What would you do differently if you planned a similar project?
- Future meetings will probably focus on deeper conversations around fewer topics. We would also expand measures of success to include participation by non-governmental organizations.

- We succeeded in reaching out to six federal agencies as listed above. We also reached out to one international organization (PAHO) and five non-government organizations. Of the six federal agencies represented, four participated on both days. The participation of PAHO, not originally expected, helped give an international perspective to our work, spurring discussion of how our work could have impact in countries other than the United States.
- We have not yet developed long-term plans. However, we have common goals and are continuing this conversation in the federal space.

- The work helped to increase the bonds between the U.S. federal government and the Wikipedia community through networking and the establishment of shared goals.

- This work should, in the long term, increase participation of federal agencies on Wikimedia projects, and improve the quality of Wikimedia projects through high-quality content partnerships. We hope to grow the success experienced by the National Archives in their contribution of media and by NIOSH in their contribution of chemical safety data to Wikidata. Our focus on documenting existing work and best practice will help us advocate to other federal agencies to carry on this work and grow the Wikimedia projects in a constructive partnership with the Wikimedia community.
