Goal

Deseamos iniciar una colaboración con el Museo Nacional de Escultura (MNE), situado en Valladolid, España, basada en el concepto de wikipedista en residencia pero con planteamientos adicionales, para liberar contenido multimedia de su colección, entrenar a su personal para que conozca los proyectos y genere contenidos, fomentar la incorporación de nuevos usuarios a los proyectos mediante actividades en el Museo, y captar el interés de otras instituciones GLAM para iniciar colaboraciones similares.

We wish to begin a collaboration with the National Sculpture Museum (MNE), located in Valladolid (Spain), based in the concept of wikipedian in residence but with additional approaches, to free multimedia content of its collection, train the staff into the projects and enable them create contents, gain new users for the projects by means of activities in the Museum, and draw the attention of other GLAM institutions in order to foster similar collaborations.

Plan

El Museo Nacional de Escultura, gestionado por el Ministerio de Educación de España, se encuentra en la ciudad de Valladolid, comunidad autónoma de Castilla y León, España, y antigua capital del país. Alberga esculturas desde la Baja Edad Media hasta inicios del siglo XIX, así como algunas obras pictóricas de autores conocidos mundialmente como Rubens o Zurbarán. Es el museo español de referencia en escultura, y la colección escultórica más importante del país y una de las más destacadas de Europa y del mundo en su ámbito y temática.	The National Sculpture Museum, managed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, is placed in the city of Valladolid, autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain, and former capital of the country. It hosts sculptures from the Late Middle Ages to the first years of the 19th century, as well as some paintings of world famous authors such as Rubens or Zurbarán. This site is the reference sculpture museum in Spain, hosting the most important collection of sculptures in the country and one of the most relevant in the world, regarding both, scope and subjects.
La colección es tan amplia que en principio solo abordaremos las obras contenidas en su sede principal, el Colegio de San Gregorio, a fin de que el Museo compruebe los beneficios de la colaboración con los proyectos Wikimedia y evalúe abordar nuevas fases o proyectos, tal vez con su propio presupuesto.	The collection is so extensive that initially we'll just focus in the works placed in its main building, the Colegio de San Gregorio, in order for the museum to check the benefits of collaborating with the Wikimedia projects and to evaluate beginning new phases or projects, possible with budget of the Spanish administration.
Inicialmente este proyecto tendrá una duración de 4 meses. El horario de presencia del responsable del proyecto en el museo será flexible en función de las posibilidades y actividades de este, ya que desarrolla otros muchos proyectos. El museo ya ha aprobado el plan y el calendario, y sus responsables están muy interesados en empezar el proyecto y en que dé resultados.	The initial duration of this project will be 4 months. The schedule of presence of the project manager in the museum will be flexible depending on the posibilities and activities of it, as it develops a lot of projects. The museum has already approved the plan and the schedule, and its staff is very interested in beginning the project and getting results of it.
Este proyecto está directamente relacionado con el de GLAMing Madrid, presentado por Rodelar en nombre de Wikimedia España hace unos meses y que está poniéndose en marcha actualmente, tras su aprobación. Intercambiaremos nuestras experiencias con el fin de beneficiarnos el uno del otro y así cumplir mejor los objetivos.	This project is directly related to GLAMing Madrid, presented by user Rodelar on behalf of Wikimedia Spain a few months ago and which is currently starting up, after its approval. We'll exchange each other's experiences in order to learn from each other with the target to better accomplish our objectives.

Cinco (5) Editatones. Cada uno incluiría, entre otras cosas: visita guiada al museo, charla impartida por uno de los especialistas del museo, taller sobre el uso de las herramientas de edición en los proyectos Wikimedia, ediciones temáticas de los participantes, y entrega de certificados de asistencia y de material informativo sobre los proyectos Wikimedia y Wikimedia España. Estarán dirigidos a diferentes grupos de personas y las fechas de realización previstas son: 4 de julio: Editatón El color de la melancolía en el MNE. Dirigido a público general, presencial o en línea. Con motivo de una exposición temporal que será inaugurada la semana anterior, este editatón abordará las piezas y autores mostrados allí, incluyendo la posibilidad de tomar y liberar fotografías de esas obras. 25 de julio: Editatón Veinte imprescindibles en el MNE. Dirigido especialmente a la Asociación de Amigos del Museo y personas relacionadas, y pensada para crear lazos entre esta asociación, que es muy activa y apoya y en algunos casos patrocina actividades en el Museo, y el movimiento Wikimedia. Se crearán o mejorarán artículos sobre las obras más importantes del Museo y sobre sus autores. 15 de agosto: Editatón Dentro del MNE: un paseo por nuestra historia. Dirigido a público general, presencial o en línea, también para público infantil y juvenil. Se crearán o mejorarán artículos sobre artistas que tienen obras en la colección permanente del Museo, y se realizarán actividades pensadas para niños. 5 de septiembre: Editatón Mujeres en las obras del MNE. Dirigido a público general, presencial o en línea. Por una cuestión histórica, las mujeres apenas han tenido presencia en el arte escultórico de los siglos XIII al XIX, y con este evento queremos poner de manifiesto esa presencia femenina. Se editará en artículos sobre obras en las que esté representada la mujer. 26 de septiembre: Editatón La Universidad de Valladolid va al MNE. Dirigido a docentes y estudiantes de la Universidad de Valladolid; se está en conversaciones con las autoridades de la Universidad para que los estudiantes puedan recibir créditos académicos por su participación en el evento.	Five (5) edit-a-thons. Each one includes, among other things: guided visit to the museum, speech by one of the specialists of the museum, workshop about the editing tools of the Wikimedia projects, thematic editions of the participants, and delivery of certificates of attendance and informative materials about the Wikimedia projects and Wikimedia Spain. They will be addressed to different groups of people, and the scheduled dates are: July, 4: Edit-a-thon The Color of Melancholy in the MNE. Addressed to general public, in place or on line. On the occasion of a temporal exhibition which will be inaugurated the previous week, this edit-a-thon will deal with the pieces and the authors shown there, including the possibility of taking and freeing photos of those works. July, 25: Edit-a-thon Twenty essentials in the MNE. Specially addressed to the Association of Friends of the Museum and related people, and thought to create binds between this association, which is very active, supports and in some cases sponsors activities in the museum, and the Wikimedia movement. Articles about the museum's most important works and its authors will be created or improved. August, 15: Edit-a-thon Inside the MNE: a walk through our history. Addressed to general public, in place or in line, also for young public. Articles about artists with works in the permanent collection of the museum will be created or improved, and activities for children will be held. September, 5: Edit-a-thon Women in the works of the MNE. Addressed to general public, in place or in line. Because of historical reasons, women have barely had any presence in the sculptoric art of the 13th to 19th century, and with the event we want to highlight that female presence. Articles about works with woman representation will be edited. September, 26: Edit-a-thon The University of Valladolid goes to the MNE. Addressed to teachers and students of the University of Valladolid; conversations are being held with the authorities of the University in order for the students to be able to receive free-choice academic credits for their participation in the event.
Entrenamiento del personal del museo, con sesiones dos veces a la semana. El museo ya ha designado a cinco especialistas para ser entrenados por el responsable del proyecto sobre el funcionamiento de los proyectos, la creación y mejora de artículos de obras, autores, movimientos artísticos, escultura española y el museo, la subida de imágenes, etc. Es importante destacar que el museo cuenta con una amplia biblioteca que les servirá para referenciar sus aportaciones.	Museum staff training, with sessions two times a week. The museum has already designated five specialists to be trained by the project manager about how the projects work, the creation and improvement of articles about works, authors, artistic movements, Spanish sculpture and the museum, the upload of images, etc. It's important to point out that the museum has an extensive library which will be allow them to reference their contributions.
Elaboración y colocación en las obras del museo de códigos QR basados en el sistema QRpedia, que permitan la consulta de los artículos específicos sobre la obra o su autor en la Wikipedia en el idioma del dispositivo del visitante.	Elaboration and placement in the works of the museum of QR codes based on the QRpedia system, which allow the consultation of the specific articles about the work of its author in the Wikipedia in the language of the visitor's device.
Recopilación, corrección y organización tabulada de los datos de las obras situadas en la sede principal del museo, para el completado y corrección de campos y categorías en las imágenes de Commons o elementos de Wikidata ya existentes, y para la inclusión de campos y categorías en las nuevas imágenes a subir y elementos de Wikidata a crear.	Compilation, correction and tabulated organization of data of the works placed in the main building of the museum, in order to the filling and correction of fields and categories in the already existing Commons images or Wikidata items, and to the inclusion of fields and categories in the new images to upload or Wikidata items to create.
Subida a Commons, bajo licencia CC BY-SA, de imágenes de calidad y con los campos y categorías adecuados de la colección de la sede principal del museo, y completado y corrección de campos y categorías en las imágenes ya existentes.	Upload to Commons, under CC BY-SA license, of quality images, with proper informative fields, of the collection of the main building of the museum, and filling and correction of fields and categories in the already existing images.
Elaboración y subida a Commons de uno o más videos del exterior e interior del museo para ofrecer una mejor perspectiva y contexto sobre su entorno, organización de las salas y contraste entre las obras.	Elaboration and upload to Commons of one or more videos of the outside and inside of the building, to show better perspective and context about its environment, organization of the halls and contrast among the works.
Creación de elementos de Wikidata para las obras y autores en los que esto sea conveniente, con las propiedades correspondientes, y corrección de las propiedades en los elementos ya existentes.	Creation of Wikidata items for the works and authors where this is convenient, with the corresponding properties, and correction of the properties in the already existing items.
Elaboración de un folleto-guía sobre el Editor Visual para su uso en los editatones y en el entrenamiento del personal del museo.	Elaboration of a leaflet-guide about the Visual Editor to be used in the edit-a-thons and in the training of the museum staff.

Target readership

El proyecto beneficiará principamente a Wikipedia en español y también a los proyectos hermanos Commons y Wikidata. También esperamos que los nuevos editores se entusiasmen con los proyectos y el movimiento Wikimedia en general.

The project will benefit Spanish Wikipedia principally, and also the sister projects Commons and Wikidata. We also hope that new editors will become enthusiastic about the Wikimedia projects and movement.

What crucial thing will the project try to change or benefit in the Wikimedia movement? Este proyecto se alinea principalmente con el incremento de contenidos de calidad en los proyectos Wikimedia, pero también con las prioridades de incremento del alcance e incremento de la participación. Es crucial motivar a nuevos editores para que se "enamoren" del movimiento, así como también a las instituciones, mostrando a estas los beneficios que produce la liberación de su contenido, la asociación del nombre de su institución con los proyectos, y que el material sobre su institución y sobre sus obras sean de la mayor calidad posible gracias a su participación activa. Incremento del alcance Aumentar el conocimiento y apoyo a los proyectos Wikimedia por parte del público más general, en particular los visitantes al museo, con la entrega de trípticos y material informativo; Mejorar la imagen que tienen las instituciones especializadas sobre Wikipedia, invitándolas especialmente a las charlas que se darán a los especialistas del Museo. Mostrar a las asociaciones que apoyan las actividades en los museos, los beneficios de los proyectos Wikimedia en general, y para ellos si participan y los apoyan. Mejorar la imagen general del movimiento Wikimedia mediante la difusión pública en prensa y redes sociales de las actividades realizadas en el museo, al quedar asociado a una institución cultural de prestigio. Incremento de la participación Enseñar el uso de las herramientas de los proyectos Wikimedia a los editores incorporados en los editatones y hacerles seguimiento y tutoría. Mediante la difusión dentro del museo, facilitar la participación como editores de grupos menos representados en los proyectos pero más entre los visitantes, como mujeres, personas mayores o gente con poca formación en ciencia o tecnología, ayudando a reducir los sesgos derivados. Incremento de contenidos de calidad Identificar a las personas directamente interesadas en la generación de contenido y con conocimientos amplios sobre arte, e invitarlas a los editatones. Aumentar el contenido de calidad en todos los artículos objetivo mediante la participación de personas expertas en la materia, tanto del museo como de otras instituciones, y el uso de bibliografía especializada. Mejorar drásticamente los contenidos disponibles en Commons y Wikidata relacionados con el museo a partir de la recopilación, organización y subida de los fondos y datos existentes.

This project fits principally with increasing quality in the Wikimedia projects, but also with the increasing reach and increasing participation priorities. It's essential to motivate new contributors to "fall in love" with the movement, as well as the institutions, showing them the benefits of free-licensing their contents, the association of the name of their institution with the projects, and the fact that the material about their institution and their works is of the best possible quality thanks to their active participation. Increasing reach Increase the knowledge and support to the Wikimedia projects by the general public, the visitors of the museum in particular, with the delivery of leaflets and informative materials. Improve the perception that the specialized institutions have about Wikipedia, inviting them specially to the talks given to the specialists of the museum. Show the associations which support the activities in the museums the benefits of the Wikimedia projects in general, and for them if they participate and support them. Improve the general perception about the Wikimedia movement by means of the public outreach in press and social networks of the activities held in the museum, as it is associated with a prestigious cultural institution. Increasing participation Teach the use of the tools of the Wikimedia projects to the contributors which joined in the edit-a-thons, and make follow-up and mentorship of them. Through the difussion inside the museum, facilitate the participation as contributors of people with less representation in the projects but more among the visitors, such as women, elder people or people with little knowledge in science or technology, helping to reduce the derived biases. Increasing quality Identify the persons which are directly interested in the generation of content and with extensive knowledge about art, and invite them to the edit-a-thons. Increase the quality content in all the target articles through the participation of expert people, both from the museum and from other institutions, and the use of specialized bibliography. Dramatically improve the available contents in Commons and Wikidata about the museum, by means of compilation, organization and upload of the existing resources and data.

Measures of success

Please provide a list of both quantitative and qualitative criteria that will be used to determine how successful the project is. Editatones: 5 Charlas de entrenamiento a los especialistas del museo: 20 Nuevos editores: 100 Contribuciones en Wikipedia: 100 artículos creados, 50 mejorados Imágenes en Commons: 400 subidas Elementos en Wikidata: 200 nuevos, 100 completados o corregidos Organización de las categorías de Commons relacionadas con la colección del museo Entradas en el blog de Wikimedia España: 7; una al inicio del proyecto, una sobre cada editatón y una al terminar el proyecto. Entradas en el blog de la Fundación: 2; al inicio y al final del proyecto. Encuestas a los nuevos editores: 5; una con cada editatón, para medir el alcance y la comprensión del taller, así como para recopilar datos que nos sirvan para invitaciones y preparativos de futuros eventos. Mejorar la imagen y el respeto hacia los proyectos Wikimedia. Aunque este punto no es medible cuantitativamente, es posible llegar a conclusiones mediante una encuesta al personal especializado del museo. Para la recopilación de métricas y otras tareas de apoyo, contaremos con las herramientas desarrolladas por -jem- para Wikipedia en español y para la web de Wikimedia España, con mejoras específicas de cara al desarrollo de este proyecto. Surveys to new contributors: 5; one with each edit-a-thon, to measure the impact and understanding of the workshop, and to compile data that will serve us for invitations and arrangements of future events. Improve the perception and respect to the Wikimedia projects. Although this isn't measurable in quantity, it's possible to make conclusions by means of a survey made to the specialist staff of the museum. For the compilation of metrics and other support tasks, we'll use the tools developed by -jem- for Wikipedia in Spanish and the Wikimedia Spain web, with specific improvements for the development of this project. Laura Fiorucci, como responsable del proyecto: Colaboradora de los proyectos Wikimedia desde 2006, principalmente de Wikipedia en español, con más de 69 000 contribuciones y permisos de bibliotecaria desde 2010, y con cierta experiencia en Commons y Wikidata. Miembro de Wikimedia España, Wikimedia Argentina, y de los grupos de trabajo Wikimedia de Bolivia y Costa Rica, y también una de los fundadores de Wikimedia Venezuela. Ha colaborado en la organización y desarrollo de varios editatones y charlas de wikientrenamiento. Es maestra de ballet y coreógrafa, con experiencia en la puesta en escena de espectáculos como El cascanueces o Don Quijote. Tiene un taller de arte y ha creado un archivo documental sobre Danza de Venezuela.

Member of Wikimedia Spain, Wikimedia Argentina, and of the workgroups of Bolivia and Costa Rica, and also one of the founders of Wikimedia Venezuela. She has collaborated in the organization and development of several edit-a-thons and wikitraining talks. She is a ballet teacher and coreographer, with experience in the staging of pieces like The Nutcracker or Don Quixote. She has an art workshop and has created a documental archive about Venezuela Dance.

Risks

Falta de una conexión a Internet adecuada en el museo para el trabajo diario y los editatones; aunque se ha incluido en el presupuesto una conexión WiFi móvil, aún podría haber limitaciones debido al diseño del edificio o a la capacidad de la WiFi, por lo que podría ser necesario buscar otro recinto para alguno de los editatones o reajustar el trabajo presencial con computadora en el museo.

Lack of a proper Internet connection in the museum for the daily work and the edit-a-thons; although a mobile WiFi connection is included in the budget, there may still be limitations because of the design of the building or the WiFi capabilities, so it could be necessary to find another venue for some of the edit-a-thons or to readjust the computer-aided on-site work in the museum.

• It's possible that the Museum helps us by providing the bibliography for the editathons, not just lending books, but also making photocopies; they also said that they could collaborate with some of the snacks (although they haven't specified).
• It could also happen that some (but not all) of the printings (leaflets, visual editor guide, Wikipedia introduction guide, etc.) could be done at the WM-ES headquarters, and so, funded by the Valladolid City Council, which owns the building.
• At the beginning of the preparation of the grant, some WM-ES members suggested me to search for some sponsorship for the wifi from the telephone companies. I've been trying, with no success for now; maybe I haven't knocked the right door.

• Es posible que el Museo nos ayude dando la bibliografía para el editatón, no solo prestando los libros, sino también haciendo las fotocopias; ellos también dijeron que colaborarían con algunos refrigerios (aunque no especificaron).
• Es posible que algunas (pero no todas) las impresiones (folletos, guía del editor visual, guía introductoria a Wikipedia, etc.) puedan ser realizadas en la sede de WM-ES, financiadas por el Ayuntamiento de Valladolid, quien es el dueño del edificio.
• Al inicio de la preparación del grant, algunos miembros de WM-ES me sugirieron que buscara patrocinio de las compañías telefónicas para la wifi. He tratado, sin éxito por ahora; quizá no he tocado la puerta correcta.

The proposed Wikipedian in residence (Laura) and the supporting resource (jem) are both experienced Wikipedia editors and have complementary skills: Laura has recently been involved in the organization of several edit-a-thons and has a background in art; jem is an expert IT admin. • I endorse this project for several good reasons. The WiR, Laura Fiorucci has a long experience organizing edit-a-thons and other Wikimedia related events. Jem is a trustable IT expert who will be of great help. He's also very well versed in Valladolid related issues. The museum is a very important institution in the field of Spanish Sculpture, placed on a city with a big university and several other important cultural institutions, including -not a complete list- Science, Contemporary Art and East Asia Art museums. • I strongly support this grant proposal. For his experience in Wikipedia and events organization, I think that Laura is totally prepared for the task. As it has been said, Public Cultural Institutions in Spain lack enough funds to pay this activities by themselves.
