For the competition purposes online domain was purchased and web presentation was initiated. Design of the site aimed to provide users with information in three following categories: competition and lists of cultural and natural heritage sites, advices concerning personal safety and creation of quality photographs and information regarding organizational team. The whole site had about 300.000 bytes of textual content.
Lists of cultural and natural heritage sites:
Natural and cultural heritage sites were presented on two separate web pages with emphasis on their number and classification together with general data on protected areas. Two additional pages contained the actual official lists of cultural and natural property. Besides the name and ID, list of natural heritage sites also contained data on location, current management, IUCN category, area size, level of preservation and in most cases, geo-location. Large number of stationary monuments found on monument list of Republic of Srpska can be found on the list of monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. This information, as well as categories of protection, were been added to the basic info found on the list of protected stationary cultural sites.
Personal Safety:
Special accent was placed on protection of the monuments and safety of the participants in the photo-competition as well. According to the latest estimates 2,3% of Bosnia and Herzegovina territory are areas with mines while about 60% of mine fields have been registered so far. Some of these areas are adjacent to cultural or natural heritage sites themselves. Therefore, special instructions were given regarding personal safety with specific information on current state of sites and numbers for relevant services. Given the fact that many of the cultural sites are ill preserved while natural ones are subjects to human influence, participants were advised to devote higher level of attention to preservation of plant life and original monument appearance. Participants were also advised on limiting their activities so disturbance to the animal life would be as minimal as possible.
Advices and guidance:
Striving to bring the competition closer to professional photographs, but amateurs as well, set of eight most important advices and photo tricks was outlined so all those participating could create high quality photographs. This set contained advices on landscape photography, photo scene and light, night photography, close-up basics, main motifs, movement around photo object, rule of thirds and frame creation during photography. Every instruction was supplemented with visual example.
For those that didn’t have prior experience with Wikimedia Commons photo repository and process of photo upload, direct links were established leading to Commons photo upload wizard. Links were supplemented with step by step instructions in Serbian language which graphically elaborated the process of proper upload, photo tagging and description process.
Community internet site:
Beside the already mentioned site, another one was launched, dedicated specifically to the Wikimedia community of Republic of Srpska. Presentations of completed projects and their results can be found on this site. This was not planned to be done during this project but thanks to good work it was created as a result of the community potential.
Jury and grading:
One of the competition challenges was the recruitment and formation of the photo contest jury, due to the difference regarding general norms of photo contest in Republic of Srpska and concept used in the project where majority of work is finished online. Composed out of five members, jury included three professional and award-winning photographers, one award-winning architect and one representative and editor of Serbian Wikipedia. Short biographies of all jury members were available at the competition site.
Jury application:
For some time organization team considered the use of jury tool. Available information on similar events in the region showed organizers of these events used no tools for this purpose at all. However, strong wish for transparency and high level of professionalism in execution of the project lead to Meta and experiences in similar projects presented there. Tool used by our colleagues in Wikimedia Austria and one used by Wiki loves Earth attracted special attention. First chosen was application used by WLE project, however, due to the fact that creators of the said tool remained inaccessible, cooperation with Wikimedia Austria team lead to use of grading tool they developed during their Wiki Loves Earth-Austria project. Several adjustments in the functioning of the tool itself were necessary so it could become compatible with “Traces of Soul” project requirements. Translation and complete localization of the application was carried out as well.
Grading:
Jury members were provided with their user accounts labeled Jury 1, Jury 2 … Jury 5. Accounts were randomly assigned so members of the jury couldn’t know which account represents one of their colleagues. All of them were provided with accompanying instructions and grading examples. 1995 photographs were pre-evaluated and the best selection was forwarded to the jury for final deliberation. The initial plan provided jury members seven days for deliberation and photo evaluation but they finished the task ahead of schedule choosing in categories of natural heritage and cultural heritage top ten photographs each.
Award presentation and prize-giving ceremony exhibition opening:
Invitations were sent seven days before exhibition and winner proclamation ceremony. Best twenty photographs (ten from each category) were presented at Andricgrad, in Visegrad. On the first day of the exhibition, opening ceremony and public announcement of the winners were held, attended by about 70 guests. Beside photo exhibition and photo-contest presentation, program included chance for the attendees to familiarize themselves with Wikimedia mission and local Wikimedia community endeavors. After the official part was concluded, guests had an opportunity to enjoy the rest of the evening over a cocktail. Photograph exhibition lasted for next ten days and attracted significant interest.
Wikipedia:
Notifications on competition were posted on Wikipedia in Serbian, Bosnian and Serbo-Croatian. Serbian Wikipedia contained separate page with necessary information and guidelines. Two new articles, dealing with cultural and natural heritage sites, were written as were additional two pages regarding the lists of sites. Accumulative size of these 5 pages is 63.422 bytes.
Wikimedia Commons:
Wikimedia Commons was provided as well with information regarding the competition. Bilingual page contained detailed data on the contest itself, proposition and rewards. In bytes, size of the page is 13.011 bytes.
Photo-tour:
In cooperation with the Tourism Organisation of Visegrad city a photo-tour was held with local participants during which local sites of interest were mapped and their current condition was assessed. Certain monuments were located in mined area that eroded after catastrophic floods in 2014. Due to these circumstances, these monuments were left non-photographed. This photo-marathon included five individuals which covered area of about 15 square kilometers. More than 240 pictures were made out of which, after selection, 135 of them where uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. One of the photographs made is File:Voz ćiro u dolini rijeke Rzav.JPG selected as Quality image following the criteria of Wikimedia Commons that went on to take the fourth place in the Natural heritage sites category.
Wikimedia Commons:
One of the most pronounced technical challenges were templates and categories on Wikimedia Commons. Similar photo-competitions, such as WLM and WLE have their own predefined patterns and templates and new organizers of those contests can use already accessible solutions, thus sparing them development and creation of new templates and categories. Tech support members of the organization team, upon careful study of earlier solutions and positive practices, were able to create new templates, categories and campaign in its entirety, including bilingual visual identities. On Wikimedia Commons informations on the competition, finalists and the entire procedure of the contest, was also provided. During and after the competition, all uploaded photographs were inspected so mistakes in useage of templates or categories could be corrected.
Media Cover:
“Traces of Soul” project attracted significant attention in media as well in public of Republic of Srpska. Proper and quality cooperation was established with Republic of Srpska media and several news portals from Federation of B&H published news concerning photo-competition. Since the beginning of the project, 28 media agencies published 36 news coverages, reports and newspaper articles. The largest daily newspapers, most visited portals, state and entity televisions and radio stations; all of them aired news about this project. Before the official start of the contest, news agencies were acquainted with the project via communique and just day before the beginning, press conference detailing the project was held. Press conference was held in the Assembly hall of Višegrad municipality which courtesly ceded its premises for this purpose. .... Besides the detailed “Traces of Soul” presentation, this press conference served purpose of introduction to other Wikimedia projects and local Wikimedia community as well. The conference attended both the director of the Višegrad Tourism Organisation and president of the Serbian Educational and Cultural Society “Prosvjeta” from Višegrad. Both gentlemen used this opportunuty to officialy support the contest and emphisize its importance for culture of Višegrad and the entire Republic of Srpska. Activites that followed were also covered by media to certain extent. Five media agencies dissaminated information on edit-a-thon. Conclusion of the project attracted similar level of attention from media and the public. The main news program aired special report from the photo exhibition, several interviews were given to the attending press representatives and in the end, the exhibition itself was covered by 16 different media agencies.
Social networks had a very important role in contest promotion. According to the td.wikimedia.rs.ba site statisics, eight out of ten visits to the site were from social network Facebook. Official Facebook page of the project had 215 likes accumulated during the competition. Page had 48 status updates, 50 photo uploads and 4798 shares. This included likes on the page, posts to the pages’ timeline, comments and shares on the uploaded pictures. Page received 20 messages from 7 indivudals while the page dedicated to the final exhibition had 2600 views in less than three weeks.
Wikimedians of Republic of Srpska had 43 new likes and followers which gives the total number of those liking the project at 258.
Other social networks were active to somewhat lesser extent. Twitter page had 10 tweets and got five new followers, while TOP page profile was followed by seven accounts.
Edit-a-thon:
Edit-a-thon on the subject of natural and cultural heritage of Republic of Srpska was earlier announced at Wikipedia in Serbian language. Separate page was created for purpose of this announcement and statistics monitoring. News of the edit-a-thon was covered by five different media. Elementary school “Vuk Karadžić“ provided the necesarry space, internet connection and fifteen computers while „Prosvjeta“ acquired literature necessary for article references. Despite the good organization, several factors influenced the somewhat diminished edit-a-thon results. Internet connection issues and frequent electrical energy shortages followed as a result of adjacent power grid repairs. Due to these circumstances, significant number of articles were left unfinished thus editing resumed in the next several days. Edit-a-thon was comprised out of 22 individuals out of which 20 was directly involved in edition of already existing articles or creation of completely new ones. ****
Out of total number of participants, eight of them were females while ten were males. 21 already existing article was updated or edited while 15 new ones were created. Also, for the QR code purposes, 8 articles were written on English Wikipedia while additional 19 articles were written at Serbian Wikipedia.
Collaboration with institutions:
Republic institute for cultural-historical and natural heritage protection:
One of the most complex tasks was the creation of lists with appropriate cultural and natural heritage sites. Establishing communication with the institution that regulated same lists on the level of the Republic was the first step towards solving this issue. Upon positive feedback from the Republic institute we received their full support regarding project with access to the official lists of natural and cultural heritage with appropriate materials on categorization.
Visegrad city touristic organization:
Visegrad city touristic organization provided most extensive support and help to the project. Besides their formal support, their representatives helped out in organization of the edit-a-thon and were present at the press conference and final photo exhibition. They also disseminated information on the project to other local touristic organizations and provided cooperation between project organizers and Touristic organization of Republic of Srpska. Thanks to their efforts several other touristic agencies shared project info on their web pages and expressed their support.
DIS theatre
During the contest, organization team was contacted by DIS theatre from Banja Luka. Expressing their interest in cooperation and wishing to contribute they suggested adding Banja Luka tour and heritage sites photography to the program of their festival. Upon agreeing photo-tour was organized in Banja Luka during which organization team held a lecture and introduced students with Wikimedia and it’s projects.
SECC “Prosvjeta”
During the project we also cooperated with Serbian Educational and Cultural Society “Prosvjeta” from Visegrad. Project had their full support and their members also strived to promote it in the local community. They were kind enough to provide their volunteer, who helped with work on the exhibition preparations. One of the volunteer was the official host of the exhibition program.
Интернет презентација
За потребе такмичења закупљен је домен и покренута је веб презентација. Сајт је конципиран тако да корисницима пружи информације из три категорије: о такмичењу и списковима, о савjетима који се тичу безбjедности и прављењу добрих фотографија и информације о организационом тиму. Цијели сајт имао око 300,000 бајтова текстуалног садржаја!
Спискови добара:
Природна и културна добра презентована су у двије посебне странице на којима се истакнуте статистике о њиховој бројности и класификацији као и општи подаци о заштићеним добрима. На двије различите странице дати су сами спискови. Списак природних добара, поред општег имена и ИД садржи податке о локалитету, надлежном управљању, IUCN категорији, површини коју захвата, врсти заштите и у највећем броју случаја геолокацију. Многи непокретни споменици се поред листе споменика Р. Српске, налазе и на Националној листи споменика Босне и Херцеговине. Ови подаци као и саме категорије заштите додати су основним информацијама на списку заштићених непокретних културних добара.
Безбједност:
Посебан акценат стављен је на безбједност-како споменика тако и учесника фото-конкурса. Процјењује се да око 2,3% територије Босне и Херцеговине чине сумњива минска подручја и да је тек 60% минских поља регистровано. Нека од небезбједних подручја налази се у непосредној близини добара. Због тога је написано посебно упутство о вођењу рачуна о личној безбједности, уз навођење информација о стању на терену и надлежним службама. С обзиром да су многа културна добра у крхком стању, а природна добра подложна утицају човека, учесницима такмичења савјетовано је да посебно воде рачуна о осјетљивости биљака и о нарушавању изгледа споменика. Пажња је посвјећена и животињама које живе у заштићеним шумама и водама и очувању њиховог мира.
Савјети и упутства:
У жељи да се такмичење приближи како професионалним фотографима тако и аматерима написано је осам најпотребнијих савјета и трикова уз помоћ којих се могу направити квалитетне фотографије. То су савети о фотографисању пејзажа, о свјетлости у кадру, о ноћној фотографији, о крупном плану, о главним мотивима, о кретању око објекта, о правилу трећине и о фотографисању у оквиру. Сви савјети пропраћени су фото-примјерима.
Свима онима који се нису сусретали са Викимедијином оставом и додавањем фотографија, постављени су директни линкови ка чаробњаку за слање на Оставу. Такође направљена су и корак-по-корак упутства на српском језику која сликовито и уз објашњење приказују поступак правилног слања и обиљежавања фотографије.
Интерни сајт заједнице:
Поред овог сајта покренут је и вики сајт посвећен Викимедијиној заједници Републике Српске. На овом сајту презентовани су пројекти и резултати пројеката.
Жири и оцjењивање
Проналазак и састављење жирија за потребе оцјењивања фотографија био је прави изазов, због разлика у односу на опште норме фото-такмичења у Републици Српској и самог концепта где се већи дио посла ради „онлајн“. Жири је био састављен од пет чланова: три професионална и награђивана фотографа, један награђивани архитекта и један представник и уредник Википедије на српском језику. Кратке биографије свих чланова жирија постављене су на сајту.
Алатка за оцјењивање:
Организациони тим је дуго разматрао употребу алатке за оцјењивање. Према расположивим информацијама организатори сличних пројеката из региона не користе никакве алатке. Међутим, постојала је јака жеља и потреба да се цијели пројекат уради на високо професионалан и транспарентан начин. Прочитане су многе странице на Мети како би се упознало са искуствима у фото пројектима. Алатка за Вики воли Земљу и алатка Викимедије Аустрије привукле су пажњу. У почетку је изабрана алатка која се користи у оквиру ВВЗ пројекта – међутим, креатори су остали недоступни. У сарадњи са Викимедијом Аустрије и њиховим тимом који ради на Вики воли Земљу – Аустрија, преузета је њихова алатка за оцјењивање. Било је потребно извршити одговарајуће измјене у самој функцији алатке како би се прилагодила потреби пројекта. Такође је извршен превод и урађена комплетна локализација.
Оцјењивање:
Чланови жирија добили су своје корисничке налоге именоване са Жири 1, Жири 2 … Жири 5. Налози су подјељени насумично, тако да чланови нису знали који налог припада колегама. Сви чланови жирија су добили пропратна упутства и примјере оцјењивања. Прегледано је свих 1995 фотографија и извршена је селекција за жири. Првобитно је планирано да чланови жирија имају на располагању седам дана за оцјењивање али су они свој посао обавили за краћи период. Жири је изабрао Топ#10 фотографија у категоријама Природна добра и Непокретна културна добра.
Церемонија проглашења побједника и отварање изложбе
Недељу дана прије почетка изложбе и проглашење побједника, послате су позивнице званицама. Двадесет најбољих фотографија (по десет из обе категорије) презентовано је у Андрићграду. Првог изложбеног дана уприличено је свечано отварање изложбе и јавно проглашење побједника ком је присуствовало око 70 особа. У оквиру програма, поред представљања фото-прјекта и резултата конкурса, присутни су имали прилику да се упознају са Викимедијином мисијом и радом локалне Викимедијине заједнице. Након програмског дијела, дружење је настављено уз коктел. Поставка фотографија била је изложена десет дана и веома запажена.
Википедијa:
На Википедијама на српском и на српско-хрватском језику постављена су обавјештења о такмичењу. На српској вики направљена је посебна страница са неопходним информацијама и упутствима. Такође, написана су два чланка посвећна природним и културним споменицима, као и две странице са списковима добара. Укупна величина ових 5 страница износи 63.422 бајта.
Мета:
Информације о такмичењу постављене су и на Викимедијиној остави. На двојезичној страни написане су детаљне информације о такмичењу, пропозицији и наградама. Величина странице изражена у бајтовима износи 13011.
Фото-тура:
У сарадњи са Туристичком организацијом Вишеграда, направљена је фото-рута: мапирана су добра и провјерено је стање на терену. Одређени споменици налазили су се у минираном подручју које је након обимних поплава еродирало. Због тога је одлучено да та добра не буду фотографисана. У фото маратону учествовало је пет особа и покривено је подручје у радијусу од 15 km. Прикупљено је више од 200 фотографија, од којих је, након селекције 135 потхрањено на Викимедијиној остави. Једна од фотографија је и File:Voz ćiro u dolini rijeke Rzav.JPG која је изабрана за квалитетну фотографију по критеријумима Викимедијине оставе, а такође заузела је четврто мјесто у категорији Природна добра.
Викимедијина остава:
Један од највећих техничких изазова били су шаблони и категорије на Викимедијиној остави. Слична фото такмичења, као што су ВЛМ и ВЛЕ имају своје дефинисане обрасце и шаблоне и новим организаторима тих такмичења је омогућено да користе већ постоја рјешења, чиме су поштеђени осмишљавања и прављења гомиле шаблона и категорија. Техничка подршка у организационом тиму пажљиво је проучила добру праксу и ранија рјешења и осмислила комплетно нове шаблоне, категорије и цијелу кампању, укључујући и двојезичне визуелне индентитете. Такође, на остави су направљене странице са информацијама о такмичењу, финалистима и читавој процедури такмичења. Током такмичења и након њега, све пристигле фотографије су прегледане како би се отклонили пропусти и грешке учесника настале коришћењем шаблона или категорија.
Медији:
Пројекат Трагом душе је у Републици Српској изазвао значајно интересовање медија и јавности. Успостављена је добра сарадња са медијима из Републике Српске, а запажено је и интересовање неколико медија из Федерације Босне и Херцеговине, који су извјештавали о фото-конкурсу. Од почетка пројекта, 28 медија објавило је 36 репортажа, вести и новинских извјештаја о фото-конкурсу. Најтиражније дневне новине, најчитајнији портали, као и државне телевизије и радио станице имали су прилоге о овом пројекту. Прије самог почетка тамичења, медијима је просљеђено саопштење о пројекту Трагом душе. Дан прије званичног отварања такмичења, организована је прес конференција на којој је јавности представљен пројекат. Конференција је одржана у скупштинској сали Општине Вишеград, која је уступила своје просторије за потребе пројекта. Информације о пројекту је том приликом прејело 14 медија. Поред детаљног презентовања пројекта Трагом душе, на конференцији су представљени Викимедијини пројекти као и локална Викимедијина заједница. Прес конференцији су присуствовали директор Туристичке организације Вишеграда и предсједник Српског просвјетног и културног друштва “Просвјета” из Вишеграда, који су и званично подржали такмичење истичући његов значај за културу како Вишеграда тако и читаве Републике Српске. Пропратне активности, такође су биле медијски покривене. Информације о уређивачком маратону је пренјело пет медија. Завршница такмичења је изазвала велико интересовање медија и јавности. Сам догађај је био медијски добро пропраћен. На државној телевизији у Дневнику 1 је емитован специјалан прилог о изложби. Дато је неколико интервјуа присутним новинарима. Укупно 16 медија пренјело је вијест о свечаној изложби.
Улога друштвених медија у промоцији пројекта била је веома значајна. Према статистици сајта td.wikimedia.rs.ba осам од десет посета сајту уследели су са друштвене мреже Фејсбук. Од почетка пројекта, на званичној ФБ страници 215 особа је означило да им се свиђа страница. Обајвљено је 48 статуса и подијељено је 50 фотографија и 4798 је број број људи који је поделио информацију о сајту. Овде спадају свиђања странице, постављање садржаја на страници, коментарисање истог или његово дељење. Примљено је 20 порука од 7 особа. Страница посвеђена отварању изложбе за 3 недеље имала је 2.600 прегледа. Страница групе Викимедијанци из Републике Српске добила је 43 нова пратиоца/лајкова. Са овим подацима, пројекат је привукао 258 нових свиђања.
Остале друштвене мреже биле су мање заступљене. Страница на Твитеру имала је 10 објава и добила је пет нових пратиоца, док је профил на мрежи ТОП запратило седам налога.
Уређивачки маратон:
Уређивачки маратон на тему Природна и културна добра Републике Српске најављен је на Википедији на српском језику. Креирана је посебна страница за најаву и праћење статистике. Информацију о маратону пренјело је пет медија. Основна школа “Вук Караџић” обезбједила је простор, интернет и 15 рачунара док је Просвјета набавила литературу за референцирање чланака. Поред тога што је све добро испланирано, јавили су се споредни фактори који су утицали на умањење резултата маратона. Услиједили су проблеми са Интернет везом и чести нестанци електричне енергије проузроковани оближњим радовима на електричној мрежи. Због тога многи радови нису завршени на вријеме те се уређивање наставило наредних дана. У уређивачком маратону учествовале су 22 особе од којих је њих 20 радило на уређивању постојећих и писању нових чланака на Википедији. Написано је 78050.0 бајтова, од којих је 72591.0 позитивно док је 5459.0 негативно. Од укупног броја учесника, било је њих 8 женског пола и 10 мушког пола. Написано је укупно 15 нових чланака и допуњен/уређен је 21 постојећи чланак
Такође, за потребе Ку-ер кодова написано је 8 чланака на енглеској Википедији. Поред овога написано је и 19 на српској Википедији.
Сарадња са институцијама
Републички завод за заштиту културно-историјског и природног наслеђа:
Посао око прављења и састављања спискова је био врло сложен и захтјеван. Први корак који је начињен се односио на комуникацију са институцијом која је надлежна за издавање спискова. Успостављена је позитивна комуникација са Републичким заводом за заштиту културно-историјског и природног наслијеђа. Завод је пружио пуну подршку пројекту и организаторима. Уступљени су спискови и материјали о категоризацији.
Туристичка организација Вишеграда
Једну од највећих подршка целом пројекту дала је Туристичка организација Вишеград. Поред формалне подршке, њихови представници помагали су у организовању уређивачког маратона и учествовали у прес конференцији и свечаној изложби. Такође, ТОВ је послала информације о пројекту локалним туристичким организацијама и повезала организаторе Трагом душе са Туристичком организацијом Републике Српске. Захваљујући овим подухватима, неколико ТО је поделило вијест о пројекту на својим веб презентацијама и пружило подршку пројекту.
ДИС театар
У току такмичења организациони тим је контактиран од стране ДИС театра из Бањалуке. Они су изразили заинтересованост и жељу да дају свој допринос и да у програм свог фестивала уврсте активност обиласка Бањалуке и фотографисања споменика који се налазе у Бањалуци. Направљена је сарадња са ДИС театром и организована је фото-тура у Бањалуци. Том приликом је уједно реализовано предавање и упознавање студената са Викимедијом и њеним пројектима.
СПКД „Просвјета”
Направљена је сарадња са Српским просвјетним и културним друштвом из Вишеграда. Они су подржали пројекат и промовисали га у локалној заједници. Такође, један од волонтера је био водитељ програма.

Cooperation with the institutions was on a satisfactory level. Authorities of Visegrad city had ave their press conference auditory while DIS theatre included in the program of their festival a workshop dedicated to the Wikimedia and the “Traces of Soul” project. Important improvements were achieved in capacities and consolidation of the community.
What didn't work?
Edit-a-thon had less than anticipated success as a result of unpredicted factors. Number of contest participants who actually sent their photographs was below our expectations. High expectations, unfamiliarity with the situation and general interest could all be elements that facilitated unreal goals thus explaining low number of participants.
What would you do differently if you planned a similar project?
Given that this was first project of this kind completed in Republic of Srpska and first larger project for the community from Republic of Srpska, realization of “Traces of Soul” gave us more detailed picture on general acceptance of Wikimedia and its concepts. New experiences will help in better defining and determining measures for success. We are considering, for similar projects, ideas on inclusion of traveling exhibitions and larger number of photo-tours.

Сарадња са институцијама је била на задовољавајућем нивоу. Градска власт је уступила своју салу за прес конференцију, а ДИС театар укључио је радионицу посвећену Викимедији и пројекту Трагом душе у програм свог фестивала. Веома значајни резултати остварени су у јачању капацитета заједнице и њеној стабилизацији.
Шта није било добро?
Уређивачки маратон имао је слабији успјех, што је била посљедица непредвиђених фактора. Број учесника који су послали своје фотографије био је мањи од очекиваног. Узрок тога могу бити превелика очекивања, недовољно познавање ситуације и заинтересованости, на темељу чега су постављени нереални циљеви.
Шта би сте урадили другачије ако би сте планирали сличан или исти пројекат?
С обзиром да никада раније није рађен сличан пројекат у Републици Српској и да је ово први већи пројекат заједнице из Републике Српске, реализација овог фото-конкурса дала је јаснију слику заступљености Викимедије и њених концепата. Нова искуства помоћи ће у бољем дефинисању и одређивању мјера успјеха. У сличним пројектима размотрила би се и идеја о путујућим изложбама и већем броју фото-тура.
Wiki Loves Republika Srpska - Trace of a Soul photo-contests. The Republika Srpska is one of the two entities that together comprise the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, located in Southeast Europe. The natural and historical riches of the Republika Srpska are very large and significant. However, there is little thing is known about them, and even less they are represented on the Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons. There is only few articles and pictures about natural monuments from Republika Srpska. Because that, one of the primary goal of this project is to increase the number of articles and free photos related to this monuments on Wikipedia and on Wikimedia Commons. Other important goal is popularisation of Wikimedia’s mision and vision in Republica Srpska. In general, public is not aware of the possibility of editing Wikimedia project. Also, there is lack of information abotu CC license. Photo contests and edit-a-thons are a good way to inform the general public about the Wikimedia and its mission. The third important goal is strengthening the capacity of the community. In Republika Srpska we have several very active member (with 10K+edits) and wiki community has about ~15 persons. They are doing EduWiki project at the moment and making an effort so the photo competition could be successfully implemented in this region. Project will help strengthening enthusiasm and give support for forming wiki user group in Republika Srpska. This project can also attract new volunteers.

In regards to photo-projects, statistic data represent fine measure of achieved goals. “Traces of Soul” project has influenced increase in content quantity for both Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. This was achieved through new photographs and articles but also through edition and enrichment of already existing textual content. Through workshops, press conferences and media announcements public of Republic of Srpska was acquainted and introduced to Wikimedia and its projects. Influence can be also perceived through member number of local wiki community, while formation of the official user group clearly demonstrates its growth and vitality.

Код фото-пројеката, статистички подаци добри су показатељи остварености циљева. Пројекат Трагом душе утицао је на повећање количине садржаја на Википедији и на Викимедијиној остави кроз додавање нових фотографија и нових чланака, као и кроз проширивање и обогаћивање већ постојоћег текстуалног садржаја. Шира и ужа јавност у Републици Српској је кроз радионице, прес конференције и медијске објаве имала прилике да се информише о Викимедији и њеним пројектима. Директни утицај остварен је и у броју чланова локалне Вики заједнице, а формирање корисничке групе јасан је показатељ њеног развоја и просперитета.
Concerning the number of photographs, goal was 97% achieved. Deficient internet connections and unfamiliarity with wiki software are perceived as main reasons for less than 100% performance.

Concerning the number of participants, goal was 40% achieved. As this was first community project from Republic of Srpska and given that we were not recognized even as a official user group in that time there was unbalanced perspective on Wikimedia presence in Republic of Srpska which was critical in predictions on number of possible participants in the competition itself. The concept of the competition and manner of participation, atypical for similar contest inside the Republic of Srpska, deterred some from participation. For some, these attitudes were strengthened by the fact that organizer of the project was an informal community without the status of legal entity. Weak internet connections were key factor that stopped several people from participation. Beside a number of complaints regarding slow upload to Wikimedia Commons demands were made for use of mail to deliver pictures to organizers which would then upload them to Commons. Bearing in mind clear set regulations of the contest, organizers could not accept photos sent by e-mail and were unable to influence internet connection quality. Important to mention is the fact everyone was provided adequate assistance service concerning photography upload and contest participation. Several individuals reported they were unable to participate due to the error ERR_SPDY_PROTOCOL_ERROR which often occurred to those using Google Chrome.

Concerning the number of photographs used in Wikimedia projects, goal was 398,8% achieved. Before our contest began Wikimedia Commons had very few pictures of cultural and natural heritage sites from Republic of Srpska. Thanks to “Traces of Soul” large number of new content was created, including photographs and articles, in addition to older articles that were update with these new photos. Wikipedia in Serbian and English had the highest use ratio for the new photographs.

Concerning the project capacity development, goal was 650% achieved. During the realization stage of the “Traces of Soul” project idea about internet web presentation was implemented. Page was used to present Wikimedia community from Republic of Srpska, its projects and activities. Community was expanded with 13 new members, that is for 150% and during this competition cooperation was achieved with Wikimedia Austria and Wikimedia Foundation itself. On several occasions, the Foundation employees provided assistance with adjustments with wiki website. Cooperation was achieved with CEE group as well which resulted in Wikimedians of Republic of Srpska representative participation in regional conference organized in Estonia. One of our latest successes was formal recognition and acceptance of our group by Wikimedia Affiliations Committee. Several web meetings followed and conversations with interested members from the wider community were held. Ground work for several new projects which should be implemented in the following period was laid down.

We had 148% success in our campaign to spread our online community via social networks. Promotion campaign attracted more visitors and followers than predicted which is a positive sign giving the high level of acceptance social networks have in Republic of Srpska.
