Grants:IdeaLab/Wiki Photos by Appointment

Wiki Photos by Appointment
How many Wikipedia entries could be susbtantially improved by adding photos not available in the public domain but which could easily be taken upon appointment by collaborators all over the world? Why not organize and find a way to finance a project about it?

Project idea edit

What is the problem you're trying to solve? edit

The problem consists in the frequent unavailability of public-domain photos of a myriad of objects importantly covered but not illustrated in regular Wikipedia entries despite their being easily accessible for casual photographing by almost anyone residing closeby.

What is your solution? edit

A proposal is made to organize a special Wikimedia project to make good use of the world-wide presence of Wikipedians or Wikimedia friends who could potentially act as volunteer photographers appointed to take pictures of publicly displayed objects deserving illustration in corresponding Wikipedia entries, and for which there may be no images available in the public domain. Ensuring full credit to photographers for displayed images thus obtained will likely be welcome as a bonus.

Who will you be doing outreach with? edit
