Grants:IdeaLab/Using government officials
Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editLots of what I see on Wikimedia is below what we can have with help of government officials and records. The un-digited laws, rules and regulations; geospatial data; published books and papers; historical records etc is available with government. If this can be brought with help with experts in these areas that is government officials then it would hugely improve Wikimedia.
What is your solution?
editI am from India hence my soultions are India specific but some are applicable worldwide. There should be multifaceted strategy: 1. Some of these are are already available in public and some can be obtained through instruments like RTI(Right To Information Act). 2. Help of government officials can be solicited through proper official channels to help in areas where government wants spread of awareness e.g. in laws, rules, regulations; historical records etc. 3. Promotion of Wikimedia editing, content formation etc as hobby or interest among government officials. Intent is not to get classified information but rather to take advantage of their expertness. These will result in improvement in content of Wikimedia.
Who will you be doing outreach with?
editPublic Information Officers(PIOs) in each possible Ministry of GoI; Training Academies of GoI; and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting GoI.
