Audience edit

Who are the people you want to introduce Wikipedia to? edit

Tourist, locals (majority of local tourists here are young)

In what languages do they search for information, online or otherwise? edit

English, Tagalog

In what ways does this group communicate with each other? edit

This can include services and apps in social media, mailing lists, physical spaces like conferences or lectures, or at specific institutions like at a library.
Facebook, WhatsApp, SMS, Tripvisor

What are some reasons this group would use Wikipedia? How would they benefit from it, or what would they find useful? edit

Think about what they would be interested in reading and learning about; does Wikipedia provide better access to information this group cares about?
Wikipedia has always been a great collection of articles, however its presence outside of the internet is lacking. By making people aware the historical data Wikipedia has stored will encourage more people to want to know what else Wikipedia has for them.

Project idea edit

What language Wikipedia projects will you promote to new readers? edit

English, Tagalog

How will you communicate with new readers? Will you be communicating with them online, in-person, or both? edit

A lot of travel packages/tours done here in the Philippines are DIY, with a traveler, or a travel blogger who has done it before. Communicating with these "freelance tour guides" would help spread this project.

Describe your idea to engage new readers. How might it be implemented? What will you tell people about Wikipedia? edit

Think about the steps that might involved to make this idea happen, and what you might teach people about your experience or others' experiences using Wikipedia.
Initially communicating with local government officials would be best to gain permission to install these QR codes. Local government officials here are scrambling to make sure their jurisdictions are up to date and is in the 21st century. And since this is a non profit project and a non obtrusive one, it'll be easy to get approval. In middle of the QR Code will be a big W logo. And of course something that says "Know more about X through Wikiepdia". I plan the design to be able to blend in with the location.

There is a trend here in the Philippines which is known as the 81 Challenge. 81 is the number of provinces and people are trying to get to all of them. Prior to my departure I will be providing an itinerary to Wikipedia. I aim to visit at least 2 - 3 Provinces a month.

How will you know if this project is successful? What are some outcomes that you can share after the project is completed? edit

If you’re not certain about how to respond to this question when starting your idea, you do not need to answer it right now. Campaign participants and Wikimedia Foundation staff can help you consider some options.

Do you think you can implement this idea? What support do you need? edit

Do you need people with specific skills or resources to complete this idea? Are there any financial needs for this project? Do you need advising from Wikimedia Foundation staff?

Things I need: 1. Awesomely designed QR code 2. A letter/certificate proving my intent is mainly for non profit. 3. An amazing group of people who can scan, summarize Wikipedia articles related to Philippine sites, municipalities, history, provinces, and even iconic figures. 4. A domain that contains the summarized article (to address high usage of metered data) 5. A wikipedia veteran if you have one here in the Philippines.

As mentioned prior to the departure I will provide Wikipedia my itinerary and expected costs. I will only proceed if Wikipedia approves the budget. And if Wikipedia believes the cost is too expensive, I will still proceed either way.

Basically if funding will be an issue items 1 - 5 would suffice.
