Monthly updates edit

Please prepare a brief project update each month, in a format of your choice, to share progress and learnings with the community along the way. Submit the link below as you complete each update.

January edit

We wrote a blog post about kicking off the project. Blog posts will appear monthly, and they will be written by each participant on their turn.

User interface mockups were released as part of the blog post to help communicate the features.

We gathered a group of advisors. The New York Public Library staff will reflect on the development of the Warper from the perspective of the initial commissioner of the tool and a daily user. Vahur Puik from Ajapaik.ee works on a crowdsourcing environment to place old photographs.

We made a proposal for a maps workshop / small cultural hackathon for Wikimania together with the Histropedia team.

February edit

Part of the project group (Albin, Susanna and our advisor Vahur from Ajapaik) convened at Hack4FI hackathon in Helsinki. We worked primarily on learning and disseminating Wikidata, but we also worked on importing coordinates, modeling place names for Wikidata and importing geotagged photographs to Wikimedia Commons.

Tim completed the category import feature for the current Warper. A future blog post will describe how it helps in creating maps atlases.

The first version of MetaPipe (tool that will be used for integration) was made available: https://github.com/artturimatias/metapipe
