Request changes
editWe understand that sometimes plans change. Please use this button to request approval for changes to your grant’s budget while your project is in progress. Any variation of 20% or more to any line item in your budget must be approved by staff here before you make the change (for projects with budgets of $15,000 or more, the accepted variance is 10%).
Budget change request
editFor the second half of the second phase of this project (April 18 through July 18), we propose the following changes to the unspent portion of the budget:
- Design: $5,000 to $7,500
- Software Development: $10,000 to $5,000
- Software Development (new role): $2,500
Rationale
editThe Python development aspect of this work has not started on time due to personnel issues. To keep this work aligned with the funding cycle, we are reducing the performance period from six months to three months and halving the budget accordingly. Meanwhile, the priorities of the project have shifted to focus on the development of a MediaWiki extension, CollaborationKit. The strategic role of this extension will be to improve on the usability of the interface we designed in the first phase of this project, as well as to make it more portable across Wikimedia projects. We view it as central to the goals we outlined in our grant renewal. For more information see phab:T123028, which outlines the priorities for this extension.
Owing to the initial lack of budget for PHP engineering work, Isarra has graciously stepped up to take the initiative on leading the engineering work. After some deliberation, we decided the best approach is to have her continue working on the extension. To do this work and fulfill design-related objectives as well, I would like to give her additional hours. Under this arrangement she will be working around 30 hours per week. To assist with the coding effort and to provide general advice, I would like to bring on Bawolff on a quarter-time basis for $2,500/three months effective April 28.
- Harej and Isarra, I'm approving this request to move $2,500 from your software development budget over to your design budget, with no net change to the project's total cost. Please let me know if I've misunderstood the request or if anything further is needed. --Marti (WMF) (talk) 11:36, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
- Mjohnson, the request also includes $2,500 to Brian Wolff, which is still in the category of software development I suppose. Thank you! harej (talk) 16:25, 30 June 2016 (UTC)
- Harej and Isarra, spelling out the approval in more specific detail:
- Isarra is to receive $12,500 total for design work (up from the original $10,000 budgeted).
- Harej is to receive $17,500 total, including $10,000 for project management and $7,500 (down from the original $10,000 budgeted) to pay contractors for software development.
