Purpose of the report
editThis form is for organizations receiving Annual Plan Grants to report on their results to date. For progress reports, the time period for this report will the first 6 months of each grant (e.g. 1 January - 30 June of the current year). For impact reports, the time period for this report will be the full 12 months of this grant, including the period already reported on in the progress report (e.g. 1 January - 31 December of the current year). This form includes four sections, addressing global metrics, program stories, financial information, and compliance. Please contact APG/FDC staff if you have questions about this form, or concerns submitting it by the deadline. After submitting the form, organizations will also meet with APG staff to discuss their progress.

Telling your program stories - all programs
editPlease tell the story of each of your programs included in your proposal. This is your chance to tell your story by using any additional metrics (beyond global metrics) that are relevant to your context, beyond the global metrics above. You should be reporting against the targets you set at the beginning of the year throughout the year. We have provided a template here below for you to report against your targets, but you are welcome to include this information in another way. Also, if you decided not to do a program that was included in your proposal or added a program not in the proposal, please explain this change. More resources for storytelling are at the end of this form. Here are some ways to tell your story.
- We encourage you to share your successes and failures and what you are learning. Please also share why are these successes, failures, or learnings are important in your context. Reference learning patterns or other documentation.
- Make clear connections between your offline activities and online results, as applicable. For example, explain how your education program activities is leading to quality content on Wikipedia.
- We encourage you to tell your story in different ways by using videos, sound files, images (photos and infographics, e.g.), compelling quotes, and by linking directly to work you produce. You may highlight outcomes, learning, or metrics this way.
- We encourage you to continue using dashboards, progress bars, and scorecards that you have used to illustrate your progress in the past, and to report consistently over time.
- You are welcome to use the table below to report on any metrics or measures relevant to your program. These may or may not include the global metrics you put in the overview section above. You can also share your progress in another way if you do not find a table like this useful.

edit- Global metrics are an important starting point for grantees when it comes to measuring programmatic impact (Learning Patterns and Tutorial) but don’t stop there.
- Logic Models provide a framework for mapping your pathway to impact through the cause and effect chain from inputs to outputs to outcomes. Develop a logic model to map out your theory of change and determine the metrics and measures for your programs.
- Importantly, both qualitative and quantitative measures are important so consider both as you determine measures for your evaluation and be sure to ask the right questions to be sure to capture your program stories.

Overview of this quarter

CHANGES: Please describe how you changed your plans and budget based on the FDC allocation approved by the Board in December 2012, and your rationale for these changes. You can then use the changed plans and budget as the basis on which to report back on the first quarter.
A: No major changes to the plans. CIS-A2K hired a Programme Officer (Institutional Partnerships) and two Language Anchors for Marathi and Konkani respectively.
HIGHLIGHTS: What were 1–2 important highlights of the past quarter? (These may include successes, challenges, lessons learned.)
A: Some of the most important highlights have been—
- CIS-A2K organised a four day long Train-the-Trainer programme in which Wikimedians from the South Asian Indic Language communities participated. The TTT provided much needed inter wiki connect to the Wikimedians and resulted in many interesting multilingual Wikipedia projects in Indic languages. TTT Participants were taken to Janapada Loka an organisation that serves as a museum, archive, library and as a live performance centre. This visit encouraged TTT participants to pursue similar GLAM partnerships in their own regional and cultural context.
- CIS-A2K has also been part of many community organised events and initiatives during this quarter. CIS-A2K supported the Bangla Wikipedia 10th Anniversary celebrations held at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. CIS-A2K also had the privilege of sponsoring the 11th Anniversary of TeWiki community held at Tirupati, AndhraPradesh. CIS-A2K along with Sanskrita Bharathi organised a Wikipedia Orientation programme in Bangalore for Sanskrit teaching faculty from all over India.

Financial summary
editThe FDC requires information about how your entity received and spent money over the past year. The FDC distributes general funds, so your entity is not required to use funds exactly as outlined in the proposal. While line-item expenses will not be examined, the FDC and movement wants to understand why the entity spent money in the way it did. editTrain-the-Trainer
edit- What are the objectives of this program? Please include metrics.
- Train-the-Trainer programme has an overall objective to groom leadership skills among the Indian Wikimedia community members.
It also has broad objectives of catering to:
a) Provide interactive training run by experienced Wikimedians and professional consultants on how to conduct outreach in an effective manner – training on presentation skills, audience engagement, public speaking etc.
b) Facilitate mock presentations, with video recording for feedback.
c) Sharing of best practices from across the movement.
d) Introducing Wikimedians to the Wikipedia policy discussions.
e) Conducting 'hands-on' DIY Digitization.
f) Establishing networks with Wikimedians from other Indian language communities and attempt to initiate multi-lingual Wikimedia projects
- Progress against these objectives (include metrics and # of volunteers/staff involved)?
- The TTT programme was envisioned as a pan-India programme trying to attract participation form all Indic langugae communities. To the delight of CIS-A2K TTT was attended by International Wikimedians from Nepali and Mythili community as well.
- TTT facilitated as an incubation and ideating space for TTT participants as many multilingual projects were conceived and initiated. Partnerships between Bangla community and Tamil community on Wiktionary project is one such example.
- TTT 2015 equipped participants with many essential skills such as: a) DIY Digitisation b) Using social media platforms for furthering Wikimedia projects c) Free and Open Source Resources d) Effective presentation among many others
- Senior WIkimedian NVV Char conducted an extremely informative session of DYK articles and urged participants to contribute and collaborate in making more and more articles being showcased on DYK
- GLAM visit to Janapada Loka, Ramanagara was organised to give the participants a first hand experience of the GLAM challenges and opportunities. The visit was preceded by a GLAM session introduction as a part of TTT activities.

- What worked and what did not?
- The interactive sessions between the senior Wikimedians from various language communities was received very well. The panel discussions that were around essential topics such as NPOV, GLAM Context, CC Licenses were highly appreciated in the feedback provided by the participants. The detailed feedback provided to the participants based on their presentations was received very well and the final presentations had already assimilated the feedback.
The GLAM visit was a long and strenuous affair and the travel involved took a lot of productive time away from the participants. The non availability of reliable and steady internet connection posed difficulties in connectivity.

- TTT 2015 was the second iteration of the programme. The first ever programme in the Wikimedia context was conducted by CIS-A2K in 2013 at Bangalore. CIS-A2K plans to conduct a 'tech-oriented' TTT to provide quality leadership in the Media Wiki domain in Indian Language communities. The details of the Mediawiki TTT can be found here.
Telugu Wikipedia and Wikisource

- CIS-A2K had developed a detailed plan for this program in consultation with the Telugu community. This plan available here will give comprehensive idea of the objectives and the implementation strategy. We have also put out detailed metrics for this specific program that are available here.

- The beginning of the quarter saw a hopping hundred articles on Wikipedia through Andhra Loyola College students on topics such as Physics, Statistics and Telugu.
- Telugu students of ALC also worked on digitizing the works of Kandukuri Veeresalingam.
- February saw the 11 years celebrations of Telugu Wikipedia at Tirupati.
- Five community members from Telugu Wikimedia community participated in Train the Trainer program organised by CIS-A2K in February-March.
- Viswanadh, an IEG grantee from Telugu Wikipedia community took lead in organising outreach events at Guntur and Rajamundry.

In this quarter CIS-A2K has conducted various activities and Telugu Wikipedians actively participated in the following Activities:
- ALC Wiki Winter Camp: ALC Wiki Winter camp that resulted in 108 Physics articles on Telugu Wikipedia concluded on January 1, 2015. About 45 students from Physics, Telugu and Statistics departments of Andhra Loyola College took part in this camp.
- Bengali_Wikipedia_10th_Anniversary_Celebration_Kolkata: Telugu Wikipedians participated in the Bengali Wikipedia's 10th Anniversary Celebrations at Kolkata.
- Telugu Wikipedia's 11 year celebrations: Telugu Wikipedians celebrated 11 years of Telugu Wikipedia at Tirupati.
- Train the Trainer Program: Five Telugu Wikipedians participated in Train the Trainer program, organised by CIS-A2K at Bangalore.

- What worked and what did not?
- This quarter saw a mixed growth in Telugu Wikipedia. Members celebrating 11 year could be one of the reasons. The benchmark article count of 60,000 articles on Telugu Wikipedia and 10,000 pages on Telugu Wikisource were achieved in previous quarter, and the contentment of achievement could be one of the reasons for lesser activity and less growth when compared to last quarters. 11 years celebrations has shown a greater responsibility and leadership among community members. More emphasis will be made on acting upon the goals and activities that were set during the 11 years celebrations retrospective and future plan brainstorm session.

Lessons learned
editLessons from this quarter
editA key objective of the funding is to enable the movement as a whole to understand how to achieve shared goals better and faster. An important way of doing this is to identify lessons learned from entities who receive funds, and to share these lessons across the movement. The purpose of this section is to elicit some of these insights, which will be shared throughout the movement. Please answer the following questions in 1–2 paragraphs each.
What were your major accomplishments in the past quarter, and how did you help to achieve movement goals?
- CIS-A2K is very pleased to report that it has successfully organised a four day residential Train-the-Trainer Programme for Wikimedians across Indic language communities. The TTT programme served as a much needed bridge to connect with Wikimedians from different linguistic groups and exchange ideas. The exchange of ideas that has happened during TTT is yielding positive results as many multilingual projects and activities have been initiated and many are in the pipeline as well.
By providing training to the future Wikimedians and encouraging them to conduct outreach activities CIS-A2K is trying to bring in new editors from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
- This quarter CIS-A2K has been fortunate in having the opportunity to work closely with the Indic language communities. CIS-A2K has supported many community led initiatives and has expressed solidarity with the communities. We have supported Bangla 10th Anniversary Celebrations held at Jadavpur University, Jadavpur worked closely with the Telugu community during the Telugu Wiki 11th anniversary celebrations held at Tirupati,Andhra Pradesh. CIS-A2K has also supported Sanskrita Bharathi to organise a Sanskrit Wikipedia Orientation workshop in Bangalore.
By supporting community activities, CIS-A2K stands true to its commitment of supporting community led initiatives.
What were your major setbacks in the past quarter (e.g., programs that were not successful)?
- Our discussions with University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot and Rangashankara, Bangalore for a possible institutional partnership did not materialise on account of various reasons.
What factors (organizational, environmental) enabled your success?
- The addition of new team members Programme Officer (Institutional Partnerships)and Language Anchors (Konkani, Marathi)has helped CIS-A2K team to function efficiently.
What unanticipated challenges did you encounter and how did this affect what you were able to accomplish?
- Our institutional partnerships with Higher Educational Institutions faced some difficulty over the issue of the academic calendar and exams for the student volunteers.
CIS-A2K resolved the same by fast tracking the activities and conducting intense sessions wherever necessary.
What changes might you make in executing your initiatives into the next quarter?
- CIS-A2K intends to conduct a feasibility study on deliverables from various institutional partnerships that are going to come up during the next quarter before signing an MoU to curtail any future risk.

Subhashish Panigrahi presented a paper in Odia language in this conference as part of a panel discussion related to Odia language computing.
- Women’s History Month - India (Organized by CIS-A2K and Wikimedia India; India, March 2015). March 8 is International Women’s Day, and to celebrate this women in India organized edit-a-thons and meetups to create and expand articles of importance to women in Wikipedia in English and various Indian languages. Online events were organized for these Wikipedias: Bengali, Punjabi, Odia, Marathi, Kannada and Malayalam.
