Overview

WikiBeats Nigeria is a Wikidata editathon aimed at enriching the platform with comprehensive information on Nigerian music. This includes expanding and creating new items related to Nigerian artists, genres, songs, albums, producers, and record labels. The event seeks to harness the power of community collaboration to amplify the digital presence of Nigerian music culture.

Goals

• To create new and improve existing Wikidata items related to Nigerian music.
• To improve the quality and quantity of data about Nigerian music artists, genres, albums, and songs.
• To engage the Ig wikidata community, particularly those interested in Nigerian and African music.

Timeline

• Preparation and Training Phase: 9th - 10th Dec 2023 5pm-6:30pm (UTC+1)
  

During this phase, we will provide training sessions and resources to help new and existing editors get acquainted with Wikidata editing.

• Editathon and Contest Start: 10th Dec 2023
  

The official start of the editathon. Participants will begin creating and enhancing Wikidata items related to Nigerian music.

• Contest End: 10th Jan. 2024
  

The end of the competitive part of the editathon. Contributions will be assessed based on pre-defined criteria.

• Review Phase: 11th - 25th Jan. 2024
  

Contributions will be reviewed for accuracy and adherence to guidelines. This phase ensures the quality of the information added to Wikidata.

• Wrap-up and Awards Ceremony: 28th Jan. 2024
  

Announcement of contest winners and distribution of awards. A wrap-up session will be held to discuss achievements and learnings from the editathon.

Anyone interested in Nigerian music and Wikidata editing is welcome to join. Participants can contribute by:

• Adding information to existing items.
• Improving the quality of data through references and sources.
