Wikimedia regions

(Redirected from Eight regions)
See also Movement Charter/Affiliates by Region.

Wikimedia regions are approximate split of the world into 7, 8 or 9 mutually exclusive regions for purpose of exact representation and management. The lists below are ordered geographically, from East to West.

Height regionsEdit

It has been proposed that Wikimedians from eight regions of the world should be represented on a Movement Charter drafting committee.

  • ESEAP: East and Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region
  • SAARC: South Asia
  • MENA: Middle East and North Africa
  • Indaba: Africa, as per Wiki Indaba, an approximately annual conference
  • CEE: Central and Eastern Europe
  • Northern and Western Europe
  • Latin America and the Caribbean
  • North America (sometimes including the Caribbean); see WikiConference North America

Seven regionsEdit

A different definition of SEVEN regions is here: Grants:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund. They are:

  • ESEAP
  • SAARC
  • Middle East and Africa (merge of MENA & Indaba)
  • CEE and Central Asia
  • Northern and Western Europe
  • Latin America and The Caribbean
  • United States and Canada

Nine regionsEdit

Sometimes a ninth category appears, for Thematic Groups, which are not defined or linked mainly to a geography.
