This was an online editing contest (20th-27th August, 2022) to encourage involvement amongst new and existing community members.
Info Visibility on the Igbo Wikipedia
Info visibility on Wikipedia is an event aimed at improving articles on the Igbo Wikipedia. This improvements will enable more information about the article or subject through data boxes. Data box works like the infobox that is seen on the right corner of an article on English Wikipedia or other language Wikipedias. The Translation of Wikidata Properties was a previous editathon to make data boxes appear in Igbo language when databox templates are placed on articles, thereby creating more visibility of major information about the subject of an article on Igbo Wikipedia.
Learning goals
By getting involved, participants learnt how translating Wikidata properties, labels, description, and aliases work on the Igbo Wikipedia. Participants also know how to:
- Insert Wikidata powered data boxes to articles on the Igbo Wikipedia
- Translate English Wikidata properties and items (labels, descriptions, and aliases) that appear on data boxes to Igbo
- Insert images to data boxes via Wikidata
Outcome
After a week's contest of improving articles on the Igbo Wikipedia, participants were able to edit 7,540 articles and a total of 7,930 edits were made. Prizes was awarded to top participants and other participants were also given consolation prizes. The contest was an interesting one because the list of the total number of articles on the mainspace of the Igbo Wikipedia were edited and improved by adding data boxes.
