Exploring Wikimedia's Tech Universe: Navigating Projects, Ecosystem, and Exciting Opportunities edit

Abstract/description edit

As per the study in 2018, It was found that about 60% of technical contributions of the Wikimedia Foundation are from volunteers. In this talk, we will discuss Wikimedia’s Ecosystem, Technical areas, projects for new developers and efforts to onboard new developers. The goal is to create awareness of various opportunities including Google Summer of Code and Outreachy programs with the Wikimedia Foundation and engage participants, especially new developers from the ESEAP region with the technical spaces of the Wikimedia Foundation.

This talk aligns with the 2024 conference theme, "Collaboration beyond the horizon," by focusing on Wikimedia's technical ecosystem and projects. It emphasizes the significance of volunteer contributions, especially from the ESEAP region, and aims to engage new developers. The goal is to create awareness about opportunities like Google Summer of Code and Outreachy, aligning with the theme of extending collaboration beyond traditional boundaries.
