Commons Upload Wizard on Safari iOS

Commons Upload Wizard on Safari iOS
  • Problem: Year after year, the proportion of contributions made by cell phones to Wikimedia projects and the quality of the cameras in smartphones are constantly increasing. Significant efforts have been made to improve the Wikipedia editing interface and develop Android and iOS applications. But the Upload Wizard on Commons remains completely unusable on Mobile, forcing contributors to go through a computer to upload photos.
  • Who would benefit: All users using an iOS device
  • Proposed solution: Create a Commons iOS app similar to the Android one.

Discussion

Instead of creating a new iOS app, it would make sense to generally develop functionality like that with a crossplatform framework like Flutter. ChristianKl14:12, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Building a new iOS app from scratch (as the Android one can't simply be ported) I'm afraid is too out of scope for our team. However we have accepted the Friendly mobile browser version for OS devices to upload photos proposal which aims to make the Upload Wizard more mobile-friendly, so be sure to vote for that when the voting phase starts on December 8. Thanks for participating in the survey, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 02:05, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MusikAnimal (WMF): I don't find it respectful at all to withdraw my proposal by telling me that it duplicates another one, and to withdraw this other one two days before the opening of the votes. If I had been warned, I would have modified mine so that it would fit into the survey... Now it is too late! Ayack (talk) 17:22, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Ayack I am truly sorry! Your proposal seemed to be clearly about an iOS app which we knew we couldn't do. The other proposal left room for working on mobile web, but unfortunately the proposer didn't get back to us in time to clarify :( I would have pinged you had I thought of it. We went through many hundreds of proposals, so you can imagine how easy it is to forget about some of them. Apologies again and kind regards, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 22:40, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
