Women in Wikimedia: Balance for BetterIn the first event of the series in 2019, we will host a panel of women from across the movement who are dedicating efforts to training other women to become contributors or organizers in the Wikimedia movement. The theme, Balance for better, is inspired in this year's International Women's Day global campaign theme. This virtual event will focus on empowering women through training and capacity development. After learning from their experiences, we will dive in a conversation about why this work matters, what are some common challenges and how we can best support each other. Women in Wikimedia: Conversations with Women in AfricaFollowing the series, "Women in the Wikimedia Movement: Conversations with Communities", Maria Cruz sat down with 4 women living and working in Africa to discuss their experiences as local leaders of the Wikimedia movement.
Women in the Wikimedia movement: Conversations with communitiesIn honor of Women’s history month, the Community Engagement team at the Wikimedia Foundation is excited to host a series of conversations about women in the Wikimedia movement, and what their experience is like contributing to our projects. Gender gaps can be found in many facets of the Wikimedia movement, which presents a variety of challenges to our mission. Therefore, it’s important to discuss the spaces in which women in Wikimedia are thriving – what can be done to build on those successes, and how can we replicate these success stories in other environments? Our conversations will focus on women within three strategic areas of our work: Programs, Technical Spaces, and Leadership positions. The goal of these discussions is to foster understanding of challenges and inequalities that women face throughout our movement, and to engage with our communities to help better address them. These conversations will be online events, streamed on YouTube, and hosted via video-conferencing software BlueJeans. If you would like to participate in these events, please sign up below.
