@Discott: I've created the campaign and banner (preview). However, I was not sure which kind of banner you are proposing—all three of them? It's not easy to combine that many photos in the standard banner template which we regularly use. It'd be best to combine them in one photo which will then be used in the banner. Right now, I'm not very happy with the design.
Two more remarks:
1) The landing page is English only by now but you are also requesting the banner in Afrikaans. Does it make sense to mark it for translation? Then I can adjust the banner so that it will take people to the right place.
2) This campaign is requested for two months (!) and although I've reduced the diet to max. 3 impressions per two weeks, that's a pretty huge campaign which should be announced at least on c:Commons:Village pump. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:29, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DerHexer, thank you for getting back to me, your comments are very helpful for us. I am also sorry for the slow replay on this; I have been uncertain of which kind of banner to do for some time now which is why I had three options and have been kicking that can down the road ever since. I have just updated the proposed banners with one that is a better combined photo banner as you suggested. I will get an Afrikaans version of the landing page done ASAP. Thanks for the comment on the campaign length, we are still pretty flexible on the time line so I would like to readjust it to start on 15 January 2023 and last until 15 February 2023 then. That way we will both resolve the length of time issue, give our selves more time to prepare, and we will not have to launch on the 1st day of the new year and rather do it on a day when we can get better media attention for it. I was not aware of the need to announce it on Commons but I will do so now. I have never done a campaign that lasted for longer than a month so I am not too sure of what the requirements are for that. Discott (talk) 14:00, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DerHexer, I am going to have to ask that we put the activation of this banner add campaign on hold for now until it gets discussed properly on Commons. I think that they have made a good point about needing to discuss the use of the banner add system to publicise an event not primarily hosted on a Wikimedia project. Although it was originally meant to be hosted on Commnons the decision to move the submission location to iNatralist (which is not a Wikimedia project) has requires some consideration before it can be done. Discott (talk) 16:39, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Discott: No worries. The campaign is not enabled so that you can take all time you need. Please ping me when you have more clarity on the campaign. :) Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:15, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer:, the discussion on Commons has going on for almost a month now and it seems as though there is a general sense of support for this. The only concern seems to have been the posibility of the banner pointing to iNatralist instead of a Wiki like Commons. I have assured everyone that the banner link will point to the landing page on Commmons which will then explain to people how to participate on iNatralist, I have so far recieved no complaints with this suggestion. As such I feel that I have enough support to go ahead with this banner ad campaign. Although the event has technically already started (1 January) I think it would be best if the banner add last for the whole of February. So for one month.--Discott (talk) 08:56, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, enabled. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 12:07, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshot from wiki commons showing how the Wiki Loves Plants banner is dominating the landing page on mobile view.

Thank you, @DerHexer:. However it seems you might be using the old banner and not the single image version here. I am looking at it on my mobile and the banner seems to be dominating the page.

@Discott: That didn't ping me (your signature was missing) so that I could only see it now. I've changed the photo to the single format which is way too wide for the mobile version (on smartphones). I've removed such devices but could clone the banner if you provide a mobile version, e. g. with just the text and logo without the photos. There is a reason why the standard banner requires one (at max two) photos/logos. For further, responsive development, the requesters should bring the design. We neither have the time nor most often the skills to implement most of the extras, sorry. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 20:06, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@DerHexer, Thanks for letting me know and sorry about not signing the last message. I am still getting use to this new chat interface. I think your suggestion for the mobile version sounds good. I am happy to make a new version of the banner for mobile but I am not so sure of the dimensions needed. No need to apologise, I fully understand and I am more than happy to do everything I can from my side. Its also a bit of a learning experience for me as I am still figuring out what works and what does not for mobile banner versions. Thanks for all your help so far. Discott (talk) 12:20, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Discott: No worries! Just let me know when you have a new mobile banner version. :) Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 12:36, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Discott and DerHexer: You're using a 4.3MB image in a banner (it's full resolution, 5323x649 pixels, only rescaled for display. Please could you use a smaller file size? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 18:39, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Strange, never happened before. Fixed. —DerHexer (Talk) 18:47, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Mike Peel (talk) 07:42, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the heads up Mike Peel. I will do a smaller version now.--Discott (talk) 07:42, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
