Report

edit

CIS-A2K conducted an engaging session focused on Leadership Development Working Group (LDWG) and the significance of leadership within the Wikimedia movement. Approximately 24 people were there in the call on 5th August 2023 and the call took time for 1:30 hours.

Speakers Mrb Rafi and Jyotsna shed light on the LDWG's initiative, emphasizing the need to invest in leadership skills to sustain Wikimedia projects and encourage community growth. Leadership was defined as the ability to guide, inspire, and motivate a group towards a shared vision, with its multifaceted nature adapting to linguistic and socio-cultural contexts. The LDWG's Leadership Development Plan, a practical resource for emerging and existing leaders, was highlighted. It offers insights into understanding roles, navigating leadership situations, and starting leadership development initiatives.

The event also featured insightful experiences shared by Ashwini Murmu, Pooja Jadhav, and Komal Sambhudas, illustrating the challenges and successes of leadership in their respective communities. Ashwini discussed the Santali community's efforts to engage members virtually and overcome post-COVID challenges. Pooja and Komal shared their own growth related to their own journey and growth and it ended up on a community work.

The session concluded with renewed enthusiasm and a commitment to strengthen leadership across the Wikimedia community. For further inquiries, participants were invited to contact leadershipworkinggroup@wikimedia.org.

This dynamic event served as a valuable platform to inspire, inform, and encourage a culture of leadership awareness and development within the Wikimedia movement.
