Bikol Wikipedia Community/15th Bikol Wikipedia anniversary celebration

The Bikol Wikipedia Community organized the grand celebration of the 15th year of Bikol Wikipedia from November 2022 to October 2023.

In-person events: Webinar on Wikimedia at Ateneo de Naga University, Bikol Wikisource events at University of Nueva Caceres, a 3-day Bikol WikiConference attended by educators, a 2-month long Bikol Wiki Weekend weekly radio program, and community conversations with different individuals and partners were the activities in celebration of the 15th year of Bikol Wikipedia with the aim to reach a wider audience and to spur the interest of the stakeholders. The activities stimulated discussions on the free and open knowledge, and created opportunities for collaborations including invitations and engagements with partners and individuals.

The webinars, fora and conference served as venues for raising awareness and correcting misconceptions around Wikipedia among teachers and students, while the weekly radio program and community conversations deepened the understanding of the general public on various topics around different Wikimedia project and the movement.

During the culminating program last October 31, 2023, six (6) institutional partners were recognized by Bikol Wikipedia Community and Philippine Wikimedia Community User Group for their significant contribution and outstanding support, namely:

Series of Activities

Webinar on Wikimedia was a 2-hour virtual seminar conducted at James O'Brien Library in Naga City on December 2, 2022 as part of the celebration of the 15th birthday of Bikol Wikipedia in partnership with the Ateneo de Naga University. The webinar featured two topics on Wikipedia and Education, and Wikisource. Three invited reactors gave insights and commentaries on the topics.

Wiki Rescue/Wiki Salbar was conducted on February 24 to 25, 2023 to add content on Bikol Wikisource. Featured for its inaugural activity is a rare copy of the 1986 Philippine Constitution in the Bikol language.

Wiki Loves Art was a campaign on Bikol Wikipedia with the aim to enrich the content on subject around the arts. Three months are dedicated to feature different artists in the fields of visual arts in February 2023, literary arts in April 2023, and performance arts in June 2023.

Bikol Wikisource Forum: Preservation of old publications through Bikol Wikisource was held at University of Nueva Caceres on March 4, 2023. PhilWiki Community and Bikol Wikipedia Community co-organized the event. Bikol Wikisource contributor and community organizer Irvin Sto. Tomas presented how Wikisource can help save rare books found in libraries and private collections thru digitization to the students taking History and BS Library & Infomation Science from Camarines Norte State College, Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, and University of Nueva Caceres.

Feminism and Folklore in the Philippines 2023 ran from February 1 to April 15 to create content on folklore and topics related to women. It was co-organized by PhilWiki Community, Pilipinas Panorama Community and Bikol Wikipedia Community.

GLAM outreach activity at University of Nueva Caceres. GLAM outreach activity was held on July 1, 2022 as part of the pre-launching event in the museum after the closure of the museum during the pandemic. Bikol Wikipedia Community, PhilWiki Community and the UNC Museum identified digitization, workshops and proofread-a-thons as future collaborations.

Bikol Wiki Weekend on 97.5 OK FM was a one-hour weekly radio program on Bicol culture, history and Wikipedia every Saturday 10:00-11:00am over 97.5 OK FM from July to September 2023.

Bikol WikiConference 2023 was a 3-day conference and training for teachers held on August 4, 5 and 6 in Naga City, Philippines. The conference included presentations on indigenous languages revitalization, connecting Wikipedia and education, and trainings on basic Wikipedia editing, and Wikipedia content translation tool. The event was supported by the Wikimedia Foundation and was in partnership with the city government of Naga, and PhilWiki Community.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in the Philippines ran from October 1 to 31 and was co-organized by Philippine Wikimedia Community User Group, Commons Photographers User Group, and Bikol

CBSUA-Sipocot Wikimedia Society was launched at CBSUA-Sipocot on October 15, 2023 after the SICCLAB Year 2 Webinar Lecture Series 1 featuring Irvin P. Sto. Tomas, organizer of Bikol Wikipedia Community and founding chair of PhilWiki Community.

CBSUA Wiki Education in collaboration with PhilWiki Community and Bikol Wikipedia Community was officially launched at CBSUA-Calabanga on October 15, 2023.
